Been away from cruisers for awhile. Happy with the RSTD but a little perplexed with the heavy/ slug like steering. Just back from riding the twisties after having some Avon Venoms installed, night and day difference!!! Worked out great on a Valkyrie a few years ago (handled well, no cracking, long wearing). Hoping history repeats itself. :fingers-crossed-emo

I've had venoms on my RSTD for > 20k km. just changed the rear due to a flat. There was lots of wear left. Just got cut up by a piece of metal it found on the road. The front still looks new.

You're right about the improved handling. I went from OEM's to the venoms and the difference was amazing.

I had the Venoms previously. The bike handled very well with them and gripped the corners awesomely. I didn't get very good mileage out of them, rear maybe 8000. I switched to the Commander II because I read they are supposed to be higher mileage, maybe 5000 ml so far and look to be wearing slower:fingers-crossed-emo

You can further improve the handling by installing the leveling links to raise the rear about an inch. Many discussions here about it and a write up in the tech section. I made my own and will not switch back

Appreciate the info, on the "things to do list". :)

Where is that tech section at?

Very interested in these "leveling links".

Go to our Home page and on the left side there is a panel called Main Menu. Part way down you will see VRTech. Choose that and one of the categories is Suspension or something similar.

Excellent, thanks guys! Will the leveling links work for my 1997 RSTD?

Also, is it the general consensus that Bias Ply tires should be used on these bikes?

I've read more bad than good about radials on bikes, just curious.

My bike is a torque monster and I have a heavy throttle hand...I'll need to know soon. :)
