Money Venture Posted June 13, 2014 #1 Posted June 13, 2014 The wife and I are looking for Leather Jackets with armor. We tried some on at a local Harley shop. Just trying to get reviews on who has what and what they like. We are looking at leather for durability and like the armor just in case. We want the most protection we can get in case of a fall. Thanks for your responses.
darthandy Posted June 13, 2014 #2 Posted June 13, 2014 I have a Joe Rocket Blaster leather jacket with full armour (Shoulders, elbows, back). It has textile panels up the inside of the sleeves for better ventilation in warmer weather. I had my daughter, the costume maker (Works for several theatres), add sleeves to the zip out liner as I found the sleeves let in too much cool air in the cooler weather. It has held up very well but may be a bit heavy for some. Then again, that thick leather should do a good job of saving one's skin should one get cut off by that little old granny in her Buick. I think the closest jacket to this one (They no longer show mine in their inventory) is the "Sonic". It has "zip off" panels covering mesh sleeve inserts. I've been very happy with mine and it has held up well. Andy
bongobobny Posted June 13, 2014 #3 Posted June 13, 2014 I am a huge Joe Rocket fan as well but what you have to do is try several different brands on, you will know when you have the right jacket for you...
beastwood Posted June 13, 2014 #4 Posted June 13, 2014 I have the River Road Caliber leather jacket. Very comfortable and nicely stitched. It has removable/ upgradable EVA foam armor in the shoulders, elbows, & back.
Money Venture Posted June 13, 2014 Author #5 Posted June 13, 2014 What kind of store did you find yours in?
SapperMedic Posted June 13, 2014 #6 Posted June 13, 2014 I found this at a pawn shop for $60 and love the fit. Very heavy though. Zip out liner and zipper vents in chest, sleeves and back.
awsmsrv Posted June 13, 2014 #7 Posted June 13, 2014 Not leather, actually better, lighter, stronger, breathes, etc. Check it out here. Motoport is the brand, not cheap. Had my jacket & overpants for almost 10 years now.
IronMike Posted June 13, 2014 #8 Posted June 13, 2014 I have a few leather armor jackets. Not one it's CE rated and I've never seen one that has the proper fit or adjustment to keep the protection where it needs to be as you surf down the road. I just wear the Bon Armor under them. But better yet the Parini Armor jacket is CE rated flows a ton of air and fits under any jacket you want to wear. Best $100 I ever spent. It's too hard to pack so if you leave with it. You'll always have it on. That's a plus. It washes in the shower. The sizes run small. Order two up. It fits perfectly. No chance any armor is going to slide off the intended protected area. Once leather gets wet. It's done. Not only that you have to wear it under your rain gear unless you have room to pack it. If you pack it what's protecting you while you ride in the rain? A safety issue because your more likely to need armor when it's raining.
videoarizona Posted June 13, 2014 #9 Posted June 13, 2014 I run a leather jacket with armor in winter and have two mesh jackets with armor for warm weather. To me, fit and durability (based on ratings??) is more important than brand. Many of the inexpensive jackets do have CE approved armor....and those pieces can be changed/added at reasonable costs. Both my mesh are Bilt (under $200 on sale). Leather is an XElement with two liners (warm and water). Pleased with all. david
Barrycuda Posted June 13, 2014 #10 Posted June 13, 2014 Go to as many different stores as you can. Try on all the makes, models and sizes. Some fit and look better than others. I have a nice leather jacket from a local store here in floral park, which since closed down. It's a nice armored leather jacket. Another option is to try them on in a store and see about price shopping online, since you will already know the size and model...
djh3 Posted June 13, 2014 #11 Posted June 13, 2014 I have a Tourmaster fully mesh jacket. I think its an Air model not sure. but I have had it since 07 when I bought the Vulcan. It has a couple of liners you can zip in that I think must have been available at one time, but finding one now has been a challenge. I have an old military liner for a jacket that works well for winter. I also have a Fieldsheer jacket that is textile and has a quilted liner. This thing is definitely a winter type jacket as it is a solid textile. Although it has vent sippers I have yet to really get any air moving thru it to stay cool in our summers. I will agree sometimes its hard to get the pads to stay where you would like them but most have cinches on the sleeves or what have you to position. Textiles are nice as you can toss in the washer also.
