captnmidnight Posted March 11, 2008 #5 Posted March 11, 2008 You'de would think that for all we do to protect the interests of Saudi Arabia and Kuait that they could come off of some of their supply and help us out with our demand.... BUT NooooOOOOOOOooooo!!!!
Freebird Posted March 11, 2008 #7 Posted March 11, 2008 I'm almost ready to delete this thread already. I will not allow it to turn into a political discussion.
flb_78 Posted March 11, 2008 #8 Posted March 11, 2008 Gas prices are the way they are because we are willing to pay it.
mraf Posted March 11, 2008 #9 Posted March 11, 2008 I'm almost ready to delete this thread already. I will not allow it to turn into a political discussion. WOW, a little shell shocked are we? Political discussions are about "My dads better than your dad". The high price of gas is just the high price of gas. The last three are a prime example of "It's good to be king".
Redneck Posted March 11, 2008 #10 Posted March 11, 2008 You guys keep on buying that gas its very good for my retirement account.

I did not ask him to do so but he did and it is sincerely appreciated.
rsstar Posted March 11, 2008 #12 Posted March 11, 2008 Seems to me that the oil companies could go to Venezuela and buy refined gas and bring it here and sell it for a profit but still a LOT cheaper than we are paying now. When we were in Germany in 97 I told my wife that we are lucky in the US but that our luck would eventually run out and we would be paying $4 a gallon for gas. Well it took awhile but, guess what Folks, it's that time!!!! By the way, and Don, I'm trying not to get political, but what country/companies do you think developed all the Middle East oil fields????????
Condor Posted March 11, 2008 #13 Posted March 11, 2008 It's my understanding that part of the price of fuel in the UK is for auto insurance that we have to pony up out of our own pockets in the US?? I wonder what the price of fuel in other countries might include?? What part of it is taxes?? I wonder what the actual cost of a gallon without the 'tax/perk pack' would be in comparison???
spear Posted March 11, 2008 #14 Posted March 11, 2008 Sidney , Australia $3.42 Somebody's dreaming here. In Sydney (not Sidney) Australia we pay $AU1.40 per litre. That's $US1.30 per litre One US gallon = 3.79 litres. (An Aussie gallon is 4.5 litres). That makes our fuel worth $AU5.30 per gallon or $US4.91. That's nearly a 50% difference to what you're saying! I wish I was paying only $3.42 a gallon.

Do not know about the auto insurance thing....but do know a lot of the cost of gas in England goes to support the nation wide health care they have.
MasterGuns Posted March 11, 2008 #16 Posted March 11, 2008 I am going to save all my complaining for when the cost doubles and I'm looking for a CX500 Honda.
Skid Posted March 11, 2008 #17 Posted March 11, 2008 I am going to save all my complaining for when the cost doubles and I'm looking for a CX500 Honda. I was thinking about a golf cart or other battery operated vehicle.....

Guindalf Posted March 11, 2008 #20 Posted March 11, 2008 Do not know about the auto insurance thing....but do know a lot of the cost of gas in England goes to support the nation wide health care they have. Actually not true, but it does go to the guvmint for them to do as they please with it! Healthcare (the National Health Service) is paid as a separate deduction from your pay, called National Insurance. I've lived in the States for the last 10 years, but IIRC, it runs about 6% of your salary. None of the tax on gas (or petrol) goes to insurance, road tax or health directly. Incidentally, according to a UK motoring show I was watching the other day, diesel fuel in Iraq is a penny a gallon!!!!
Squeeze Posted March 11, 2008 #21 Posted March 11, 2008 That all said ... i calculate the todays Price here in Stuttgart, Germany to 8.35 USD per US gal ....
Guest KitCarson Posted March 12, 2008 #22 Posted March 12, 2008 That all said ... i calculate the todays Price here in Stuttgart, Germany to 8.35 USD per US gal .... That is a pretty serious price that is!!! At the price we will all just have to buy a can of wax and shine our bikes every weekend....surely would not be able to use them..........at least not like we do now......
juggler Posted March 12, 2008 #23 Posted March 12, 2008 The solution is simple. We have plenty of our own oil if we would just allow the oil companies to drill for it. Also, we get more of our oil from Canada than anywhere else. http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/current/import.html We should produce more of our own. Here is a break down of our own oil production. http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_crd_crpdn_adc_mbbl_m.htm
