brian aber Posted June 6, 2014 #1 Posted June 6, 2014 Hi there, just joined you grear site, a bit of info on myself 68 years young. born in south africa now living in israel, have owned 53 different types of two weelers, most of the time with the wheels facing down!! at the moment my daily ride is a 1980 gl 1100 gold wing , just bought a 1984 water cooled bmw k100 from holland, cant seem to CLICK with this bike?? any how i am thinking of changing my wing for a venture BUT........according to our laws here we are only allowed to inport bikes 30 years or older also we have a 118% import tax on imports (tax office uses NADA prices for valuation) !! so i am looking for a 1983 ,, 84 ,, or a 1985 venture that i will store in USA untill jan 2015 . from what ive read the royal model is the way to go.. a bit worried about the 2nd gear bug, do all the first generation bikes have this?? seem to remember that there is a 85 royal fully loaded with 2ng gear up grade for sale ?? can some one shed some light on this please thanks for reading this. Cant help you on this question. I am not a 1st gen wizard as some are here on the site. Someone will chime in shortly though., Hang in there.
bongobobny Posted June 6, 2014 #3 Posted June 6, 2014 Yes, all '83, '84, and early '85 were affected, but many were fixed either under warranty or when the issue came about. Generally the popping out occurred before 50,000 miles. The best year for MK1's is the '85. I know of one that is for sale in Ontario, Canada as we speak. It is owned by member Marcarl and is in very good mechanical shape and the 2nd gear issue has been addressed...
