So ... a CanAm Spyder with a roof and doors for around $18,000 less? "When pig's fly" and other cliches come to mind. It would be interesting but there's just no way they can hit that price point unless it's built in India using child labour! Oh wait ... they already do that with the Royal Enfield motorcycle and it still costs $5,999 with two wheels, no doors, no roof, etc.

Yea my son thinks one of these is going to solve his problem with the miles he has to drive for work. He travel all day seeing patients at their homes. So a couple hundred miles a day sometimes. His company wont let him drive a motorcycle, so for now this would be out anyways as it is classified as a "cycle"

If they hit that target price there will be hundreds of thousands on the road in no time. I'd buy one in a heartbeat. It won't be long after they become a hit that you'll see gas prices go through the roof because of the loss of sales AND TAXES. :D

I was actually speaking to someone at their corporate office about this & they are in the process of reclassifying this in all 50 states. The goal is to eliminate the need for a mc endorsement & helmet requirement.

This this is actually to be built in an old Hummer factory in the USA. Hopefully they can hit this target price, even at 10K it would be worth it!

I was watching an episode of Top Gear (the british one) and caught some info on why there have been several 3 wheel cars over there. It seems they are taxed by their autos. And as this is classified as a "cycle" therefore less tax. Now I'm sure there is some way our government can foul this up for us rite? Impose some sort of "luxury tax" or something for non-car vehicles. The more we work to get away from using fuel the more it goes up. Funny how that works. Seems to me right after GM started making the 350 converted diesels and put them in pick ups and passenger cars diesel fuel went sky high compared to what it had been.

I disagree, Yesterday I bought a name brand sport shirt at Marshalls with a $60.00 price tag for $12.99. An hour earlier I had seen the same shirt at the upscale mall down the street for $90.00.

That tells me retail will charge whatever the public will pay for it. But, there is no reason why you can't find the same quality for pennies on the dollar.

With three wheels it's a motorcycle, soooo no compliance with crash safety standards

required to have breaks

required to have lights

now I know he said he wanted to comply with them anyways. . .

Isn't this the car that Eddie has already put a deposit down on?

My same exact thoughts Don.. As I was reading the original post, my first thought was Eddie placed an deposit down on one..

The most feasible way for the gov't to do this would be by switching to a gas tax based on car mileage rather than per gallon. This is currently being studied in some states due to the advent of higher mileage cars, hybrids & electrics.

In the end they always get their pound of flesh!

I saw one of these at a display in Daytona. I was tempted to place a deposit but didn't. I like the concept and just might follow through on that deposit idea.

With regard to helmet & Mc endorsement, this is the response that I got from them.

Elio Motors: Right now Andy, the legislation varies from state to state, and we're working hard to remove any motorcycle endorsement or helmet requirements! Here's the current status of the motorcycle helmet laws:

His "half as wide, twice as much mileage" does not fly with me. Yes, with the weight difference and the aerodynamics, I can see a substantial improvement. but with 1200cc's, why can we not get 60 or 70mpg's?
