Huggy Posted June 1, 2014 #1 Posted June 1, 2014 Carl come back and get the GREMLINS you left at my house!!!!!! Carl and Ben came by and Ben was telling how since Carl's Venture had dumped gas allover the ground the last time they where going to come down his bike which had never done this before has started acting up and doing the same thing. They left my place to go get ICE CREAM at Long Point, of course they didn't invite me to come along. But I found out why!!! I started up my 83 XJ750 and while it was warming up it started dumping GAS and OIL ALL over my driveway!!! They came down to give me their GREMLINS!!!! I'll get even with them for this, mark my words. I have a MOTHER IN-LAW to leave on someones door step!!!!!!!
Marcarl Posted June 1, 2014 #2 Posted June 1, 2014 Wow!!!!! you is lucky,,, all you got out that deal was leaky carbs???,, we could have helped you with more persistent values,,, like maybe a leaky tire, or a Brake Pad gone loose,,,, or maybe a coolant leak,,, we went easy one you THIS time. And hey!!! this is a free country, and you can go where you wish,,, you could even have come along with us,, but then you would have had to endure what we said about you,,, man your head would be twice the size it is now. And as for your mother-in-law,,, she's got to be a real nice lady,,, hey! she lives in the same house as you, don't forget,,,, and who was there to greet us when we rolled in???? none other than your lovely wife,, Next time, we'll buy you one,,, sorry for not specially inviting you,,,we should have been more considerate.
Huggy Posted June 1, 2014 Author #3 Posted June 1, 2014 I couldn't believe what happened!!! I have had absolutely no problems with the bike since I did the rebuild on it!! The wife and I thought it was really priceless. Ben's basically blaming you for his carb problems and as soon as you guys leave my bike did the same thing. Talk about weird. it's OK you didn't invite me out for ice cream. You left the GREMLINS so I couldn't follow anyway.
Marcarl Posted June 1, 2014 #4 Posted June 1, 2014 We do what we can and when ever we can,, just glad to able to be there when it was opportunistic. You'll need some carb cleaner, a small tap with a big hammer and a place to flush that needle valve through.
Huggy Posted June 1, 2014 Author #5 Posted June 1, 2014 The wurst thing is that when you get a stuck float valve needle on these XJ's is that all the gas runs back into the air box then into the breather tube into the oil. So now I have to replace the oil, oil filter and the air filter!!!! So now its going to take a few days or a week wait for the air filter. So tomorrow pull off the gas tank, pull the carbs, drain the oil. So that's going to be an all day job. But at least I'll have it all back together tomorrow night except for the air filter of course.

If all those gremlins stayed at your place then maybe my gas leak stopped and I won't have to rebuild my carbs.
Huggy Posted June 1, 2014 Author #7 Posted June 1, 2014 Well I won't be doing no rebuild just removing the float valves and going to either replace them or take some fine sand paper to the edges and give them a rub.
Huggy Posted June 1, 2014 Author #8 Posted June 1, 2014 Guess I will be doing a rebuild on those carbs. Not because I have to, but because I already have the parts!! Was digging thru my spare new parts for the XJ and low and behold!!! A whole set of parts to do a COMPLETE rebuild!! So take that you Marcarl Gremlins!!!!!
