Mad Dog Posted May 31, 2014 #1 Posted May 31, 2014 Will it hurt anything to put flags on the RSV antennas? I'm not talking about a 3'x5' monster, but maybe one 12" long or so? or ... how big? Thanks
djh3 Posted May 31, 2014 #2 Posted May 31, 2014 I'm sure it puts some stress on the antennas. I also read of a fellow Venture owner that had his mounted lower so it didnt catch so much air, problem then he discovered was it ate the paint off the trunk.
slowrollwv Posted May 31, 2014 #3 Posted May 31, 2014 I ran my flags on mine for two years then got flag pols and put them on the trunk rack. I ran them about half way up on the antennas.

Venturous Posted May 31, 2014 #5 Posted May 31, 2014 I ran the small flags on my antennas for 5 or 6 years with no issues. Then one day while riding in the rain the flags got heavy and the radio antenna apparently had enough.... SNAP! Have used the fold down flag mounts ever since.
V7Goose Posted June 1, 2014 #6 Posted June 1, 2014 In the past there were many owners that reported broken antennas from this until we got the word out to NOT put flags on the RSV antennas. Haven't seen a post on that for years now. Goose
Freebird Posted June 1, 2014 #7 Posted June 1, 2014 I agree. I lost two antennas from having the flag mounted on them.
djh3 Posted June 1, 2014 #8 Posted June 1, 2014 I know the way I ride a lot of the time, them bad boys would be arched way back. If I was mouthing some up I would look at a different method.
midnightrider1300 Posted June 4, 2014 #9 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) you need to watch the video's of a ride in MAY, i pointed the camera back to view the other riders ( but they were SLOW) but if yo watch all the videos you can see the antennas whipping up a storm in the wind and I never got over 65 on the ride, mostly 50-60mph.... view the 1:35 mark...... Karaboo Posted June 4, 2014 #10 Posted June 4, 2014 I have very small flags mounted at the very bottom of the mast to give the wind the least amount of leverage. They are about 5" long. I have only about 2,000 miles on them, but so far so good. I'm looking into regular folding flag mounts for larger American and U.S. Navy flags.

ThanksNOOOOOO, don't do it. Even the smallest flag will bend your antenna back double at speed. I know I've been there
XV1100SE Posted June 4, 2014 #14 Posted June 4, 2014 you have found??? We get a 20% discount from Rumbling Pride. When you buy a mast you get a free flag or one at a reduce price. I have one on my bike and the quality is very good. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=72679
djh3 Posted June 5, 2014 #15 Posted June 5, 2014 KARABOO, I have read about a fellow rider that had flags mounted where you do. Imagine his surprise when he was cleaning and he found the flags had essentially sanded his trunk paint off.
dacheedah Posted June 5, 2014 #16 Posted June 5, 2014 I suggest against it and the antennas can be pricey, antenna holders are not that much
a1bummer Posted June 5, 2014 #17 Posted June 5, 2014 I put flags on my antennas, they made the antennas do some wild whipping back and forth. I figured it was only a matter of time before they snapped.bThen I put them on flagpoles and they worked much better. Then after about a year or so, I noticed that it appears that the flags are wearing the paint a little thin and caused dark spots where they come in contact with my trunk. Bill
midnightrider1300 Posted June 6, 2014 #18 Posted June 6, 2014 Holy moly! that is pretty wild at the 1:35 mark huh.... I'd have never known had I not turned the cam backwards .....
Ron Melby Posted June 6, 2014 #19 Posted June 6, 2014 If I know I am going to run over 60 I roll my flag up and secure with a couple of bread ties. I only use the cb antenna and secure it to the top and bottom of the transformer thingy. Never does it touch the trunk.
