Since I took the stock Brickstones off I have been running the Dunlop 404 WWW (Wide White Wall)

The stock tires began making horrible noise at 3000 miles. Put the white walls on and have loved the look since.

The best mileage I have been able to get from the 404's lately has been 10K

How are the Metzlers and Avons wearing??

I had to put a black wall on the rear once in a pinch. I could only stand it for about 4000 miles before I replaced it with the WWW again.

She just doesn't look right with out the white walls.

Any input to other brands of WWW with decent mileage ware??

thanks

I got 18,000 mi. out of my Dunlop Touring Elite 3 front and I've got around 8,000 mi. on my rear E3 and it still has good tread. I've heard a couple of complaints about wet weather handling on the forum but I've had to ride in some pretty wet weather with them and they handled very well and I don't usually crawl, if you know what I mean! I just replaced the front and it was with another E3. The only (mild) complaint I have is that they are somewhat noisy in turns - kind of a moaning, almost siren noise. But I can live with that given how well they perform and last.

You are getting appropriate wear from the D404's. I get a bit more but that is rider style.

So why do you want something different? The D404 will give you good service for the price of the tire. They have good grip and rain capabilities. I have run them for 160,000 miles without any issues. I did have issues with Metzler's with separated treads and Bridgestones due to poor rain handling. Once with the D404, I determined that if I had no problems I would stay with them. I do change my own tires and use Dyna Beads for balance.

Enjoy the ride.

check out the new Michelin Commander2. They claim better mileage over 15k on most rear sizes. And I can say they handle much like the Avons which I have also had. And much better than any tire I have had to date. pirelli, avon, bridgestone, dunlop, mich commander1...michelin commander 2 is the best so far. I have 600 miles on them. Best description neutral, stable and easy steering. I'll see how the stand up to mileage. Rears I have had> Avons old series Elan 18k, Venom 12k, Mich. Commander1 10k, Dunlop 491 15k, Pirelli 10k. The Dunlop 491 pair was the worst handling tires. I like tires with a rounded sidewall with tread which promotes easy steering. By comparison the Dunlop 491 and others they make are like car tires...flatish profile. Great for mileage but resistant to lean/cornering

:sign yeah that: Had 404 in rear and Metzler in front and replaced them with Commander II's. Best move I ever did, handling is great. Only have 800miles on them so far but they still look like they have not even been scuffed. Not available in WWW though, but prefered to go with handling and longevity.

I got 17,500 out of my rear Commander 2 I just took off. Probably could have got at least another 500 miles out of it. But I had a new Shinko I am going to try standing by and had time and we are heading into rainy summer time here in Fla.

The WW is a limited supply, not alot of them available I dont think.

I too, like my WWW tires. Like you I've been using the D404 but the last two sets I've found the front tire wearing very quickly and when new the tread depth is shallower then the rears. I only got about 10,000 miles on the front one and I think the back one will go another 4000 or 5000. I use to get about 12000 to 14000 on a set.

The only other WWW I have used is Avon but the front was the M90 which I really didn't care for. The rear was the stock size and it was fine. Can't remember how many miles I got on them because I wrecked the bike. I think about 8000 with lots of tread still left. I haven't seen them advertised lately and don't know if you can still buy those. I think there may be one or two other brands out there like Maxi (spelling?) but I have no experience with them.

Personally I cant even keep the rim on the rear of mine clean, so a WWW would look black anyways. On the cage if they are white lettered or WW I turn them in. Just me I guess to much work, I'd rather ride.

I have been running Metz for 70k miles on my Honda spirit and now 9k on my RSV. I hit the wear bars and going to The Dalles for the forum event will be 2k round trip - so time to change. And I want to make a change, just so see the difference.

After everything I have read I am going with the Michelin Commander 2. I won't be able to get them on till Friday or Sat but will ride report. I was hoping for more than 9k out of the rear ME880 but riding 2up about 40% of the 9000 I am sure is what reduced the mileage.

fyi - no complaints at all about any of the Metz 880's I have had on both bikes, just want to try something different.
