dingy Posted May 27, 2014 #1 Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) The clown shifter has met a very early demise on Sylvester (aka Hybrid). When I put the floorboards on frame, I thought there has to be a better option. I got a new stock 1st gen shifter today from ebay for an extremely good price. It can be changed in 10 minutes. Bushing size is the same, adjustment screw assembly attaches with no changes needed. 3 sets of pictures, one set of 2nd gen shifter, one set of 1st gen shifter and one set with them somewhat side by side. EasyRider Posted May 27, 2014 #2 Posted May 27, 2014 Unfortunately I need to keep dancing to stay awake and hate to keep polishing the toe of my dress boots.
Kirby Posted May 27, 2014 #3 Posted May 27, 2014 And if you ever have a case of gout in your left big toe, you'll appreciate that clown shifter.
MikeWa Posted May 27, 2014 #4 Posted May 27, 2014 Now that I am used to it. I really like the heal shifter. Mike
Guest HdHtr Posted May 27, 2014 #5 Posted May 27, 2014 This is great and timely! I was just trying to find out if there was a toe shifer to replace the heel toe shifter on a RSV. So if I actually wind up buying that 08 RSV tomorrow I am gonna do this as soon as I get it back home. I have a first gen to pull one off of.
XV1100SE Posted May 27, 2014 #6 Posted May 27, 2014 ... if I actually wind up buying that 08 RSV tomorrow I am gonna do this as soon as I get it back home. I have a first gen to pull one off of. If you haven't used a heel-toe shifter before, don't be too eager to change it out. My previous bike (Virago 1100SE) had a toe shifter and I didn't think I'd like the heel-toe shifter. At this point...I wouldn't want to go back to a heel-toe shifter.
Huggy Posted May 28, 2014 #7 Posted May 28, 2014 Sooooooo.......Is dingy saying only the clowns on the forum find it useful OR is he saying they are clowns because they use it?????
Drreb Posted May 28, 2014 #8 Posted May 28, 2014 I prefer the heel toe shifter over the other shifter.
Carbon_One Posted May 28, 2014 #9 Posted May 28, 2014 Having ridden toe shifted bikes for years and now using the heel toe shifters on the last 3 bikes, since "01", I too prefer the heel toe shifter models. Wonder which class of clown I fit under? :confused24: No matter, to each his own. Larry
dingy Posted May 28, 2014 Author #10 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Sooooooo.......Is dingy saying only the clowns on the forum find it useful OR is he saying they are clowns because they use it????? Both, neither maybe ?? Gary Edited May 28, 2014 by dingy
djh3 Posted May 28, 2014 #11 Posted May 28, 2014 My first bike with a heel-toe was my 07 Vulcan. I bet I rode that a month or more before I got use to the shifter. Now I dont think I would want to go back. Depends I guess, a Buel with a hell toe probably just wouldnt be rite.
bongobobny Posted May 28, 2014 #12 Posted May 28, 2014 Gary got the term "Clown Shoe Shifter" from me referring to the fact you need size 24 clown shoes to properly operate it... Myself I have no issues with it and am very used to it! It's just a looong distance from toe to heel.
Sailor Posted May 28, 2014 #13 Posted May 28, 2014 Took me a while to get used to the heel-toe shifter. At first I did not like it but now would not want to go back to a toe shifter. Just call me "Crusty".
ragtop69gs Posted May 28, 2014 #14 Posted May 28, 2014 Dump both of those shifters and go to a jockey shifter setup. If you're going to do custom... DO CUSTOM !
Carbon_One Posted May 28, 2014 #15 Posted May 28, 2014 Dump both of those shifters and go to a jockey shifter setup. If you're going to do custom... DO CUSTOM ! Or electric shift. Larry
