KIC Posted May 25, 2014 #1 Posted May 25, 2014 Really, I need some info on how to remove the end exhaust tips on some 1st Gen pipes. My 87 has the cool dual tips. My 89 has the bland shorter chrome tip. I just thought I would switch pipes, but after mounting the right side, I found the left side has some type of pipe mod from the previous owner. So I need to put the same pipe on, but I cant seem to get the tip off to switch... whats the secret my Venture Gurus... ???
Prairiehammer Posted May 25, 2014 #2 Posted May 25, 2014 Both the aftermarket VentureLine dual exhaust tip and the OEM single exhaust tip are held on with the springs and a friction fit rubber(y) sleeve between the muffler and the tip. Remove the springs and start twisting and pulling. Maybe some penetrating lubricant to assist in breaking the bond created by heat and time. Oh, and double check for some small obscure fastener that the PO may have installed. There was no fastener normally, but someone may have added one, especially if they neglected to use the rubber sleeve.
Prairiehammer Posted May 25, 2014 #3 Posted May 25, 2014 If you can't get the tips off without damaging them, here are some brand new ones on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151305853938?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Hurry, though! Only an hour left. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwN1gxNjAw/z/rzcAAOxyIPNTeMtM/$_57.JPG
KIC Posted May 25, 2014 Author #4 Posted May 25, 2014 Thanks guys. I did spray some penetrating oil on them last night but just wanted to be sure. My 89's tip came right off, Now knowing that I wont damage it, I took a rubber mallet and taught it who was boss. Thanks again. Bill
