5 Buck Kanuck Posted May 24, 2014 #1 Posted May 24, 2014 Hi I have a plug that is not firing, so I called the dealer, he said that since the bike has 40KMLS I should take it in and have a tune up ,celebrate the carbs and a few other things you should do at 40K. Is it worth while on a 07 RSV Midnight. ??????
djh3 Posted May 24, 2014 #2 Posted May 24, 2014 Depends on how handy you are and your comfort level with taking things apart. To change the plugs you will have to remove the seat and gas tank and the 2 front engine braces. Not terribly hard. I suggest iridiums going back in. Carbs being synced is probably not a bad idea either. But at 40,000 have the valves been checked for clearances? Should think about that. Now at a dealer I have heard the costs are down right scary. We shall see what others have as suggestions.
RedRider Posted May 24, 2014 #3 Posted May 24, 2014 Well, you are close to the first major review per the owners manual. Valve check Carb Sync Plug replacement Fluid replacement (brake and clutch) That ought to be it. Although most go much farther before a valve check, it's a good idea to get that done a first time. It will give you a feel for how the bike is set up. Make sure they advise what the gap was before and after adjustment (if one is made). Carb sync is something you can do yourself. Find someone with a vacuum gauge and have them show you how it's done. Plugs are easy to do. Use the tool from the kit to get in there. Will need to remove the tank and the dog bones to get to the front ones. Use BLUE loctite on the bolts putting the dog bones back on. Fluid replacement is fairly easy. If you have questions, there are several threads on here about doing it. And lastly, 40K kms in 7 years? Get out there and ride this beast! RR
