Biker killed, how fast do you think he was going?

No one is happy he died to learn a lesson and it's unfortunate that others will still not learn a lesson from this tragedy, but I hope you would agree that "we" all are glad that no one else was injured or killed in the accident. There is a girlfriend and two children that will wonder if only the truck driver had slept in or..... Our prayers go out to anyone who loses a loved one regardless of the reason.

Not exactly correct. I've had a motorcycle drivers license (class m) and a regular license(class C) in several states for 45 years. I also have had my cdl (class a) for 22 years. I also have had my private pilot license (certificate) for 17 years. I'm sorry but I don't remember any state issuing a drivers for any classification because anyone has the right to it. I believe it is still considered a privilege to have one. and NOBODY has a right to ride, drive, or even fly without following the rules and laws. If you feel the laws are biased or discriminatory or unfair you don't have the "right" to ignore it. Talk to your congressman about getting it changed.

Just like being a member of this forum, if you don't follow the rules the moderators have the power to exclude you from participating.

So the next time a dumb ass passes you doing a wheelie at any speed, or you hear about a stupid pilot that crashes because he was showing off to his friends by "buzzing" their house don't say they had the "right to be doing that". Do they also have the right to kill or forever traumatize someone with their stupidity?

I personally think not.

Now I am ready for the flames to begin for posting this, but go ahead. I'm old, been married twice, and raised two kids by myself, I can take it.

Steve, I agree with you completely.

If the driver of the truck had pulled out one second earlier, he very likely would have been killed with having a motorcycle and rider inside the cab with him. If he had pulled out one second later, the motorcycle most likely would have missed him and there is no telling who or what he may have hit down the road.

This is my hometown and my parents lived one block away on the other one way street that matches this one for many years. It is a two lane, one way, with parking on both sides of the street and very limited visibility unless you pull out into the lane to see if anything is coming and even that is limited with a slight rise in the road.

In this case, the driver of the truck did absolutely nothing wrong and is a very lucky man, and I am sure he is struggling with this catastrophe in his life.

Well what Brenda said about IQ dropping ten points when you get on a super fast bike I have to agree.

My son went to Afghanistan and had me watch his GSXR ya know take it out once in a while.

I used my secret safe street but I found out it went from zero to 122 just in second gear.

I could not take it out without being stupid on it.

I have no idea why they even make em.

Had I hit someone who pulled out on me. It would definitely been my fault.

 

And the Venture is pretty fast for its weight. You can cloud someone's judgement throttle rocking it too.

 

If I were speeding and hit someone who pulled out on me. I could not sue them with clear conscience. I'd hope I got well enough to ride again, hope the insurance covered it and forget the rest.

 

But as Dad always said. truck driver he was with six million safe miles in 4o yrs. "You can be dead right.".

Years ago, my son Brian had a Yamaha FZ1 that he changed the exhaust on and had it re-jetted, using a dyno. I think it pulled a little over 130hp at the rear tire and this is a fairly light bike.

He was working out of town and I rode the bike several times and yes, I dealt with that "OK, which country road can I go down that I can crank it on for a few seconds?". And, it only took a few seconds to get scary fast. It was definitely not the bike that you could take a leisurely ride through the country and enjoy it, as is my Venture.

nothing wrong with fast bikes. ive had fast bikes from day one. my last fast bike was a zx-14 that i built to run the texas mile. capable of 200 plus mph and over 200 hp. i sold it 2 years ago. never made it to texas. decided i was to old to go that fast. im 71 now and still do stupid stuff with a whole lot of members of this forum, like draggin the boards in the twisties in georgia and arkansas. there are quite of few folks that could'nt stay with me and alot more that i could'nt stay with. for some reason when groups get together on rides things get competitive and alot of us do stupid things. even at my age. think about it.
