acollaro Posted May 22, 2014 #1 Posted May 22, 2014 Does anyone know where I can find a Yamaha electro tester? P/n 90890-03021. I've searched ebay and google but all i've found was a manual and some old listings that were no longer active.
dingy Posted May 22, 2014 #3 Posted May 22, 2014 All I saw in service manual dealt with spark plug gap testing. Gary

Prairiehammer Posted May 22, 2014 #5 Posted May 22, 2014 (edited) Here's a pic of the Yamaha 'Electro Tester'. Just FYI: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EpZKld6dsU4/Tgtv2vPMEyI/AAAAAAAAAF4/Ia-9EF9GanQ/s1600/Picture+010.jpg Primarily it is a spark gap tester. Spark gap testers are available everywhere and for I suspect much less money than from Yamaha. Perhaps those cheaper ones will not be as sophisticated or 'cool' but they will do the same thing. Here's a shot of the instruction graphics inside the lid. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/m0oAAMXQDnpTb-cT/$_57.JPG Edited May 22, 2014 by Prairiehammer

Be neat to have if you have tester. Gary
djh3 Posted May 22, 2014 #8 Posted May 22, 2014 Spark plug gap tester??? Really? I mean we use to test them on an old SUn machine used for tune ups. But heck in the last heck 25 years I haven had a need. I have a tool that goes in place of the plug to test to see if you have spark. Plugs ain't that expensive, I just throw them out.
Neil86 Posted May 29, 2014 #10 Posted May 29, 2014 (edited) Its to test the voltage capability of the ignition....adjusting a gap the spark has to jump wider till it can't fire. The electrotester is doing it on a running engine vs just grounding a plug to head. They were using 0.25" (7 X spark plug gap) as the minimum acceptable for a good ignition system.
