buddy Posted May 22, 2014 #1 Posted May 22, 2014 I installed Ricks stator & R&R before the TN meet no issues till we leave the Hub in AR stator not charging by kuryakyn meter go back to the Hub chk and it's charging ? Left for home no issues but I hear the stator whine on the way home this morning started it in the garage it's whining really Loud in garage but charging good ? So I been reading Ricks stator will whine ? So do any one here used a Ricks stator and hear a whine noise ? Will tear into this weekend if I have time and see if I see anything ??
Venturous Posted May 22, 2014 #2 Posted May 22, 2014 I put in a Ricks Motorsports stator 6 months ago. No whine that I can hear. I also got a HD R/R at same time. The new R/R just failed and I put back in the OEM R/R. All tests I did on the Ricks Motorsports stator still show in spec. Have you run any tests on the stator and R/R using a multimeter yet?
etcswjoe Posted May 22, 2014 #3 Posted May 22, 2014 I have troubleshoot a stator whine three times (different bikes) in the last two years and the culprit all three times has been the three bolts that hold the stator have come loose and it is vibrating against the rotor. I have found that you really need to clean the bolt holes and the bolts for the Loctite to adhere well.
buddy Posted May 22, 2014 Author #4 Posted May 22, 2014 No I haven't tested it yet other than chk voltage 13.7v afraid I will find it to be the three stator bolts? Cleaned threads and used blue loctite on them will see what I find ?
Droneh8tr Posted May 22, 2014 #5 Posted May 22, 2014 I have troubleshoot a stator whine three times (different bikes) in the last two years and the culprit all three times has been the three bolts that hold the stator have come loose and it is vibrating against the rotor. I have found that you really need to clean the bolt holes and the bolts for the Loctite to adhere well. I'm waiting for my Ricks Stator to show up.. Thanks for the reminder to use Loctite. I've installed Ricks components on other bikes and have never had a problem
Snaggletooth Posted May 22, 2014 #6 Posted May 22, 2014 My HO stator wasn't Ricks but i had to use thicker washers on the three bolts to get it tightened properly. The OEM bolts wouldn't seat deep enough to set properly. Haven't had a problem since in over 3 years now. From my Droid wherever I may happen to be at any given moment.
Cougar Posted May 22, 2014 #7 Posted May 22, 2014 I put in a Ricks Motorsports stator 3 years ago. No whine that I can hear as well no mods except for the plug, I hard wired that part. otherwise it has been awesome and really putting out the charge for my gear.
