bill4you502 Posted May 22, 2014 #1 Posted May 22, 2014 Thanks to Bert2006 for your threads on LED passing lights & headlights. Installed Trucklite passing lights & Cree LED headlight, no problem. Ordered the 3200 lumen since the 1600 was out of stock. Only issue is the headlight doesn't work on low beam; (Problem, you think?) only high beam. Not an issue as I ran the OEM bulb on high all the time. Just adjusted the beam level between low and high. **Note: When installing the passing lights, use a lever type clamp with soft jaws to hold the lamp in the bucket... just make sure the rim is already around the clamp (Don't ask!). Don't need 14 hands that way!!!** Thanks also to those that posted threads about installing speakers & baffles. Installed the clutch side speaker AND both baffles in 45 mins!!!!
Bert2006 Posted May 22, 2014 #2 Posted May 22, 2014 You are welcome sir. Glad it worked out good for you. I have 1800lm one and it works well on high or low beam, although low beam is very strong but high beam adds a bit more coverage closer to bike but it does not impact distance visibility much. That is probably linked to the reflector itself. You may have a defective unit if you have no low beam. Probably should discuss with the vendor.
stanG Posted May 23, 2014 #3 Posted May 23, 2014 Just note on these units. I saw the earlier post and purchased the 2800ln unit. I have to admit that the quality of the bulb and ballast is good and for the most part plug and play. You do need to do a little modification to the plastic panel behind the reflector housing to get clearance for the heatsink and fan on the bulb and you do have to make the reed switch modifications and reserve lighting unit modifications to get the thing working on a first gen. Without the reserve lighting unit being unplugged the bulb will stay on high beam. That could the problem that you are describing. Bottom line, after all this I didn't find the bulb to be as bright as the Silverstar Ultra that I have been using. So since I always drive to work in the dark, I removed the LED and reinstalled the Silverstar. So if somebody wants one of these bulbs for about 40 bucks let me know. On a side note, I did install the Rigid Dually Floods as driving lights mounted on the crash bars and they are excellent and super bright. I am giving serious consideration to using a combination of a pair of these, one spot, one flood, mounted in the headlight location and configured for HI/LOW beams. Any comments?
bill4you502 Posted May 25, 2014 Author #4 Posted May 25, 2014 I did contact Canadian Cruiser and Scott did say that the issue with the difference between low & hi beam had been resolved with newer models of the 2800 lumen kit. I think I broke a small wire while installing which he will reimburse me when Cree reimburses him. I also replaced a Sylvania Brite White H4 and the difference, for me, with the led kit was dramatic! I'll post w/ pics once I get everything installed next wk!!!
