Says sends out a signal that mimicks a rattlesnake. Not so sure, I turned it on, you can hear it, never heard a snake go whoop whoop its Audible I imagine you can hear it going down the road, pretty loud. For that reason it says hook into + of High beam, not an option on my bike I have the oscolator on the high side. OK so I say Im going to mount this before the trip. First week of June im riding somewhere! 8 days! Anyways. It's about a little smaller than a gas cap. 2" round. WHERE IN SPELL WOULD I MOUNT IT! Any Ideas? I went out, there is like Nowhere on the 2nd gen for this without making a hole. Not going to make a hole for this. I thought about using the two screws on the bottom of the lowers to make a cross member and bolt it to that. but kinda naaaa Right now I am thinking Glue a High Power magnet to it and use my Charging port to power it, then just slap it on and stick it to the Guard that goes around the Saddlebag. It Should Face Fwd and me Low to bounce sound off pavement. Dont think it would put up with direct water from tire. OR depending on the input here I might scrap the idea. It was advertised for Motorcycles but I think they meant Harleys. And Wings. It looks drab. Any Ideas?
Flyinfool Posted May 22, 2014 #2 Posted May 22, 2014 I don't know about Ohio, but the deer around here do not know what a rattle snake is. So to a deer it is just noise, but your bike already makes noise. A startled deer can run in any direction. I have seen deer that likely would have stood on the side of the road and watched you go by, jump out on the road at the sound of a horn, because it scared them, their first reaction is often, not always, to run in whatever direction the are pointed. Deer are so unpredictable that the best defense is to see and avoid. This means good lights at night that really light up the ditches so you can see them coming.
IronMike Posted May 22, 2014 Author #3 Posted May 22, 2014 I drive about oh say 14K miles a month. I drove 4000 miles so far this week! And i agree with you on this 100% I might not even put it on! The deer I go by that do not even move has to be in the gazillions!
Brake Pad Posted May 22, 2014 #4 Posted May 22, 2014 Don't do it: I installed a set on my 1984 Honda Goldwing Aspencade, two weeks afterword's, I found out they ready do work. The doe came down over a hill, into the roadway and stopped dead in its tracks. I T-Boned her at 55 MPH. BYE BYE Goldwing:bawling:
alwrmcusn Posted May 22, 2014 #5 Posted May 22, 2014 Those "Deer Alert" gadgets are not really necessary. I have a 2009 RSV that I bought new. The deer population here in east Tennessee is about as plentiful as possums. Roughly two every half mile!! I have never (knock on wood!) hit a deer. I attribute that NOT spending an excessive amount of time washing and polishing the bike (trike actually). The dust seems to camouflage the trike and the deer are unable to see it in time to leap out in front of it. As proof of my theory I present this in evidence.....About four years ago my sister was driving home from work in Oak Ridge. She stopped for gas and decided to treat her Buick to a car wash. About three miles down the road, a deer (probably suffering from long time residual exposure to WWII uranium production at K-25) leaped from the brush along side the road and Whammo!! Killed the deer, and cost about $600 in front end damage. Lesson learned!!
MikeWa Posted May 22, 2014 #6 Posted May 22, 2014 If you want to mount it on your 2nd gen put it under the fairing. Instead of using the headlight use an on-off switch. A startled dear usually looks for the fastest, clearest, easiest escape route. Often that is the open space on and across the roadway. They really have no concept of vehicle speed. Although they may see you, get curious and stop for a look. Personally I use a loud radio. Hopefully they will hear me approaching and not be so startled. Mike
IronMike Posted May 24, 2014 Author #7 Posted May 24, 2014 Think I am going to call this one not worth the effort, Hard to mount, not electrically friendly for my set up (Although separate switch included) AND it was some Harley Guys idea. (Not Freebird, he would count.) So I am just going to install it on the Car and see how it works there. Ill let ya know. In the fall.
