minnmac Posted May 22, 2014 #1 Posted May 22, 2014 Spent last weekend visiting sarges46 and Marilyn when they came (south of the border). At one point me and Rick ended up outside swapping war stories from our youth. Thinking back it seems almost unreal the things young men and women are asked to do in the service of their country. So this memorial weekend I just wanted to say Thanks Vets for all you do and have done. Its a cliché but freedom really isn,t free and someone always has shoulder the costs. Thank You
etcswjoe Posted May 22, 2014 #2 Posted May 22, 2014 Please also remember to take time to remember those that went before us.
Venturous Randy Posted May 22, 2014 #3 Posted May 22, 2014 Someone has to step forward to do the right thing. Thank you for your post, as many have no clue as to what it takes to keep the tyrants of the world from taking over. Many young people today never consider service to their country as part of their life. And, not only that, they have no appreciation for those that do step forward. They simply do not understand that those that did step forward has afforded them the right to chose to serve or not. RandyA
bongobobny Posted May 22, 2014 #4 Posted May 22, 2014 And thank YOU for your service! Welcome Home!!!
Black Owl Posted May 22, 2014 #5 Posted May 22, 2014 And thank YOU for your service! Welcome Home!!! Heck, I did it for the money The FTA was just an added bennie...
IronMike Posted May 22, 2014 #6 Posted May 22, 2014 Glad you mentioned That. Here's a little inside story on what is behind that day. For me anyways. I was on Recruiting duty for the Marines when the Beruit bombing occured andthe lowest ranking. Thus I was Honored to pick up the returning Marines from the Airport (with a detail of 8) and escort them to the Funeral home and being the lowest rank I was ordered stand FIRST Casket watch there while the rest do what Marines do best, go to Tun Tavern. (Marines Guard their fellow Marines until the remains are Burried) This first watch is where, the wife, the fiance' Mother, father, sister and brothers show up, and whoever else. 7 times I did that over about two months, it was a full time two month side duty. The moments spent at the side of those Caskets put you in some serious touch with what War is all about. http://www.waymarking.com/gallery/image.aspx?f=1&guid=c6bb28dc-f00a-4b4d-b08e-cd90ff50d407 All of that is Memorable. Like yesterday. I watched a movie once called Taking Chance, It was Ok but nothing like what I experienced. I'm just glad the admiration and respect for those who served has taken such an uptic as of late and people are remembering this day for more than just time off work and a Picnic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Day 6.5 years In Marines, Service Connected, Lifetime Member of DAV Ch11, the American Legion a few others too. I will be working that day so my Co Workers who never was even in any branch, can go do their picnics and family time. In fact Ill work all weekend, Starting friday and all the way to next saturday. Bummer Ought to be a law Veterans have that day off over Non Service people. I'd like to think they are going to pay respect to family members who Gave all. That might keep me sane.
Yammer Dan Posted May 22, 2014 #7 Posted May 22, 2014 Special Thanks to those that Gave All. You are not Forgotten Brothers.
Huggy Posted May 22, 2014 #8 Posted May 22, 2014 (edited) Thanks to all who have gone into harms way and those who will to serve and preserve our way of life! My youngest son has just called and is being deployed to Romania. Leaves tomorrow. Thank you Mr Putin!!!! Edited May 22, 2014 by Huggy
ragtop69gs Posted May 22, 2014 #9 Posted May 22, 2014 As I type this I am sitting at MCAS New River and have had the chance to thank many marines for their service. An imperssive air base to say the least. Osprey & Cobra's everywhere I look. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2

ragtop69gs Posted May 22, 2014 #12 Posted May 22, 2014 Yea some of us were drafted in this Country's Army, but thanks anyway. And a special thanks to you, you answered the call even though it was not what you wished to do. Some went north of the border instead. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2

Thank You Having never served I really cant even imagine what you vets have gone thru.. I have toured lots of Battle Ground areas and very seldom do I go past our National Cemetry's (Arlington is breath taking but there are many many others - like the one out by Sturgis - that will bring tears to your eyes too) as I find them.. Those rows and rows of white crosses just scream to the depth of the cliche that you qouted Minn.. Thank you to all you men and women, both living and deceased, for shouldering the costs of which that cliche speaks!! Puc
van avery Posted May 23, 2014 #14 Posted May 23, 2014 Here in Brazoria Texas we have the Brazoria County Cavalry. We ride out to honor Military and First responders almost every weekend. We also do funerals honorings and escorts for when requested. Does your heart good to honor and personally thank these ladies and gentelmen for what they give up and do to protect our freedoms and safety. And show them there is support at home. In the last 6 years we have honored over 800. Here is a link to our site. http://brazoriacountycavalry.org/main/
IronMike Posted May 24, 2014 #15 Posted May 24, 2014 Yea some of us were drafted in this Country's Army, but thanks anyway. Well, your type always got double respect in my book! You weren't dumb enough to give up your liberty to protect our liberty, Yet you made the best of it anyways! I have special thanks for those that were drafted, and now those that went back to the sandbox several times. I think everyone should go once before anyone goes again, Unless they want to! And some people do! Yay! Patriots!
