Looking at a 2nd gen? So you are looking to upgrade.:stirthepot:

Well, would not call a 2nd gen an upgrade. We find that in order to expand the sales of touring bikes Yamaha had to dummy down the first gen, make it lower for short people, heavier so it would plop down squat and spread out all over the road and go all by its self and make the whole thing simpler so more people could figure out how to ride one without getting all confused and such. I mean you guys that ride them 2nd gens gots them coats with a million zippers, doorags, chunky boots ... it is hard enough for you guys to get dressed so trying to figure out how to ride a first gen would of bees just to much!

Nonetheless, I quest for another ride. And I am considering a 2nd gen.:whistling:

.... You can get two brand new cars that get 40 mpg, have a/c, heat, sound system and air bags all over the place for the cost of a new touring bike.

Value is in the eye of the beholder as is beauty ehh?....

The 2013 RSV sold for around $20k so that was actually a very good price...even though you got a cassette player for it.

Can you imagine paying $32k+ for a bike... and not even getting a cb ? At least someone got three wheels for that money ! ehhh? :rasberry:

i've seen them 07/08 models with that mileage for as high as $11K at dealers. Bought mine with 7K miles for $10K flat with new tires and some extras thrown in. Having owned both (1st gen and 2nd gen) they are different bikes. In my humble opinion the 2nd gen's are more a riders bike, 1st gen's are more of a drivers bike. Don't get me wrong both are fun and deceptively quick, I just feel that i'm more in tune with the pavement on the 07 than i was on the 86. The 1st gen just seems to insulate me more from the environment.

Hey Steve,

SAY IT AIN'T SO! (Just Kidding!) In 2008 Yamaha Reversed the battery terminals on the battery which limits the battery choices for the years 2008 to present. With a slight mod, the DEKA or Odyssey battery can be installed. Just thought you might like to know.

Given a choice between a NEW 1st Gen and a New 2nd Gen it is the 1st Gen every time!! (sorry Don) but there is the problem. "NEW"?? And my 2nd Gen runs Great. Not as much "Scat" as "Brown Sugar" or the rest of my 1st Gens but runs great and top end ??. That low speed handling is a whole different matter. What a "PIG"!!! But it looks good. Not as good as a 1st Gen but not bad!! Got you confused yet?? I am!! Think I'll go consult "Brown Sugar"!!

Ok. To be serious for a second. There were no serious issues with the 2008 Venture. If if if it needed the cylinder head bolts re-torqued that would have been done a long time ago or it would be leaking coolant all over the place. Check the brake pads. They do sometimes wear out. Depending on miles sometimes heavier clutch springs are in order. Both minor fixes. These bikes are a great ride. Enjoy it.

I bought my 08 with 9K on it, at the end of the month Problem free it had 16K on it, I rode it HARD on a vacation and everywhere I could think of, a Few Iron Butt style trips. Just because I did not have time.

The tires wore out fast.

There is, like any other bike a lot you will WANT to do to it. And if you join up here, double that.

I also have a Roadstar I have not ridden since I bought the venture a year ago July.

Yeah, I have fixed on a couple of 12 or 13 of them things.

Ahh crap Earl. I dunno if I'd buy into a 2nd gen or not. I am having a hard time deciding. What would I do with that old thing out in the garage under the cover. Still think I may just fix it!!
