Brain fart & Bad rear tire...

Recommended Posts

Ok I guess I can say it was a brain fart, I checked this morning and my BAD tire wasn't so bad after all...Seems I had the rear tire on for over 9k miles...I put it on in MARCH not September...I replaced the front tire in September.... so all that fussing n cussing and it was my forgetfulness.....

Just curious. How fresh was the date code on that?

I just ordered a E3 Monday and should arrive Thursday. Seeing the popularly of JW the stock rotation should keep them pretty fresh I'd think.

Glad the rest of us never have brain farts. Up in the air between Commander II a Venom. Appreciate some feedback once you get a few miles on it. :detective:

Was at Myrtle Beach rally last weekend.

A friend went to the Avon tent to get a new Venom for his V-Star 1100.

They were out of Venoms his size. And the Avon rep said they had stopped production on the Venoms and would go with the Cobra line. I might guess he meant End-Of-Line(?) But that's the first I've heard of that, I don't see anything on Google about it.

I got between 20-22k miles on my first rear Commander II.

But have Dunlop E3 on front cause they don't make stock size Commander II.

(But mostly enjoyed Avon products too.)

Mike,

I got 22k out of the 1st set of E3's then made the mistake of trying Pirelli. I hated them and couldn't get'em off fast enough...never again..

just got my new Avon Venom tire in from JW... I hope I like it ,,:fingers-crossed-emo

I realize discussions about tires and oil is like opening 500 Pandora's boxes here, but for ME...I absolutely love those Avon Venoms for the RSV. they handle all weather, and deal with rainy roads as if it was a sunny day at the beach. when time comes, I will get them for my wing...

The Venons really sold me during the few years here when summer was nothing but wet roads. Great traction and control.

Had an experienced rider class here where it had been raining on and off the whole day. One part of the course was against the clock through a set of tight turns and left and right sweepers on an asphalt surface. My rear broke loose in a sweeper and kicked out but hooked right back up when i rolled off the throttle. Two other bikes went down. Some refused to ride the course and one even called his wife to bring a trailer to pick him up.

I was over talking to the instructor and saw most the guys standing around my bike. Granted it was the only Yamaha there, the only bike well over 5 years old closer to three decades and certainly not the best looking bike there.

They were all checking out the Venoms and the thread pattern. I wasn't the only one impressed with them that day

I put a Cobra on the rear of my 1st. Gen last October when I couldn't get a Venom. I think a Cobra is just an improved Venom. The sidewalls look a little different, but the tread looks just about the same and somewhere it said that the belts had been re-designed to improve how long it lasts. 42PSI is the max. air pressure allowed though. I've got about 5,000 miles on it (including the 2 up loaded trip to Albuquerque last fall) and so far it's been great. It did feel slightly different for the first 10 miles, but after that I must have gotten used to it.
