kevin-vic-b.c. Posted May 20, 2014 #1 Posted May 20, 2014 Sadly we lost a rider on our island this holiday long weekend. What makes it most heart wrenching is his girl friend was behind him in the car as he crashed his new to him Harley. http://www.timescolonist.com/news/local/one-dead-in-nanoose-bay-crash-1.1066242
friesman Posted May 20, 2014 #2 Posted May 20, 2014 wow, always sorry to hear of riders going down. My heart goes out to his g/f and family. Brian
cowpuc Posted May 20, 2014 #3 Posted May 20, 2014 Thats terrible,, thoughts and prayers for all involved.. We lost two of this weekend.. It was annual Blessing of The Bikes and two guys lost their lives on the way to it.. One of them was the result of hitting one of our Michigan motocross track pot holes... Sad, really really sad..
Venturous Randy Posted May 20, 2014 #4 Posted May 20, 2014 The police stated it may have been due to inexperience. I am a strong proponent of stepping up in size as you get more seat time. This may have been one of these guys that always wanted a Harley and bought him one without having any riding experience. This makes it even worse with his girlfriend following behind him. But, at least she was not on the back. RandyA
videoarizona Posted May 20, 2014 #5 Posted May 20, 2014 ah...darn it. Never like to read this. Prayers to his family and girl friend...so sad.

RandyA Sad news for sure The poor girl friend following him To add to what Randy has mentioned about inexperience : I was at the dealer looking around and speaking to the guy just retired Never owned a motorcycle looking at one of the Suzuki boulevard 109 He wanted this bike bad --- Well the salesperson said --- I will not sell you this motorcycle It is to much motorcycle for someone that has never riden Then pointed him at a real nice looking used V Star 650 Saying ride something like this for a year or so
Sailor Posted May 20, 2014 #7 Posted May 20, 2014 Whenever anyone asks me about getting into biking I always tell them to start with something like a 400 for a couple years.
ACE50 Posted May 20, 2014 #8 Posted May 20, 2014 Sad to hear this. I'm a little worried as my daughter (27) takes her MSC this weekend. Wondering what she should get first. A 250 is out-grown pretty fast. A CB750 may be too big for a first bike, for her anyway.........what to do?
CMCOFFEY Posted May 20, 2014 #9 Posted May 20, 2014 the vstar 650 is a very tame bike. It was my second bike. you can pick them up real cheap too. My first was a Honda Rebel 250. I could have skipped that and been okay.

Her 650 is light, nimble, reliable. My oldest son has one as well. Easy to work on. Only issue I've noticed is that the stock clutch setup has a very small, almost all the way out friction zone. Takes getting used to. There's an aftermarket lever called the 'clevver' that changes the geometry and improves the friction zone.
IronMike Posted May 20, 2014 #11 Posted May 20, 2014 This happens every spring. People are so anxious to get on and ride. Before they even check the air in the tires, the oil, the brakes, the movement of the cables fluid level and the rest of the pretty trip. Then they take off and go ride like it was middle of summer. Should go to the first parking lot and practice maneuvers. And some turns and figure eights and quick stops. Then we have the crown that hops on and goes and drinks and then rides. I feel for the person following. They will never get over it and they will always dog out riding. How they will never ride one. But when they see someone get killed in a car, they keep eight on going. People keep posting I think it reminds people to think through the first few weeks of riding.
