dave_wells Posted May 19, 2014 #1 Posted May 19, 2014 2000 Venture Trying to cool the engine I am thinking it is running hot .I am comparing it to how hot my RSTD gets The stat housing out of the bike. That was fun I read this on another thread : If you need a new thermostat, there is a Napa #156 and on the Napa box was a #33708 that I was able to cross reference to a Stant #13758 at my local auto parts dealer. A stat at the MC stealer was ~$30 and at the auto parts dealer it was ~$7. All are 180* stats. I just wondering if current sometime things change Going to Napa on my way home today Thanks for your input...
dave_wells Posted May 19, 2014 Author #2 Posted May 19, 2014 A NAPA 156 will not fit a second gen Bought one and tried I did tested my thermostat in hot water It started opening at a bout 185 full open at about 195 I am assuming it is good Just going to put it back in
dave_wells Posted May 28, 2014 Author #3 Posted May 28, 2014 Put the thermostat in filled the system Ran the bike and checked and had 1 leak after about a minute It is the stem on the outside that runs back to the rear cylinders The leak is at the thermostat housing The gasket is a O ring I removed it cleaned it and added some super lube And reinstalled the fitting Bike has been running at an idle now for 15-20 minutes and no leak Fan has come on 3 times Should I replace the o ring or just go with it ?
dingy Posted May 28, 2014 #4 Posted May 28, 2014 2000 Venture The stat housing out of the bike. That was fun Should I replace the o ring or just go with it ? Remember how much fun it was pulling t-stat, it will be easier to do the 2nd time when you need to fix o-ring. Gary
