Yesterday I dropped by the local Yamaha Dealer to pick up a part for my wife's bike. It wasn't in stock. Not too surprising They ordered it and gave me a very reasonable rate on air shipping.

Today I went out for lunch with my sisters, riding my Tour Deluxe. While I was at lunch the dealer called to say the part was in. That gave me a good excuse to ride across town to the dealer, so off I went.

I got to the dealer, picked up the part, traded some BS with the sales guy, mentioning that my second son had just done his course so we'd be in once he'd done a road test. Went out to my bike and tried to back out of the parking spot. Bike felt VERY heavy, hard to move. Got off and looked - rear tire flat. Goldarnit! at least it happened in the best possible place.

Went in to talk to the service department. To set the stage, today, Friday, is the day before a long weekend. Everybody and their cat is trying to get their toys done to be ready for the weekend.

The service guy knows me. I'm in there frequently. He saw how pissed I looked and came over to talk. I explained what I'd found. He told me he was insanely busy, could I leave it with him till Tuesday. I said I could but I'd need to figure out a way home because my wife was out of town.

While I was working on that issue the service manager disappeared briefly. When he came back he had me sign a work order and took my key, I assumed for Tuesday, and vanished again. Just after I'd reached my son who was on his way into town to visit friends the service manager came back, told me it was done, and I should pay the work-order and meet him out front. I think, although he didn't tell me, that he pulled my bike into the shop, mounted, balanced, and installed my new tire himself.

Yes, it may have helped my case that I've bought 6 bikes through that dealer since 2010. Yes, it may have helped my case that every season I get them to do a full maintenance and safety check on the 5 still in my family. Frankly, I don't care. I got excellent, caring service. The dealership went way beyond trying to make my situation right.

Whenever I see a thread here complaining about dealerships, or 'stealerships', I smile softly to myself and say "You don't know my dealer."

Atlantic Recreation, Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Canada. Well done them.

Turned out my rear tire had picked up a piece of metal somewhere. I'm glad it waited till I was parked to go flat.

Glad you got a tire on it before the weekend...hopefully weather is good for riding. Going to be partly cloudy and only 11C tomorrow, 15C on Sunday, and 18C on Monday. Frost warning tonight...2C overnight. Was 28C earlier in the week. Oh well.... Victoria Day weekend, can't expect perfect weather !

What tires are you riding on? Hopefully the tire that went flat was nearing end of its life. If you still had the OEM Bridgestones then it isn't much of a loss. Last couple tires I've used are Dunlop E3's and very happy with them.

great story... There are times we wished everyone was like that. but then, those people who do go above and beyond wouldn't be recognized as much.

XV100SE: I run Avon venoms. The current set had 20k km and were still good. The front still looks new.

It's glorious weather here, but I'm in the Army Reserve. Training today and tomorrow. At least I got to ride to work...
