YAMAHA 1100 xs

I just did a labor swap and in turn got this bike has faring and bags . Have not heard much about this bike searched on internet sounds like it was very fast for the time. don't have any idea what it is worth ? Carbs are gummed up and front master cylinder was full of mush. Rebuilding it and got carbs off rebuilding them, just don't want to stick more money than its worth. Will keep if I like it has neat lines I think would make good commuter. Has 49000 miles on it any thoughts?:lightbulb:

Are the saddlebags and fairing stock? If so, you might have the Venturer (not Venture, but the predecessor to the Venture).

My roommate had an XS1100 when I was in school in the late '80's. We beat on that bike unmercifully and it never broke. Our misspent Saturday evenings almost always involved a burnout contest to see who could lay the longest single black stripe with it. I can say first hand it is a tough bike. It was pretty quick too. At the time nothing but a GS1100 could touch it. (according to our personal research :whistling:)

I had an XS 11 Special. VERY fast. Never got beat on that bike. Even waxed several Honda V65s, when they came out claiming they had the fastest production bike out...NOT.:rotfl:

I would think it was drivers error on the V65 .

 

According to Cycle's March, 1983 test, "Its horsepower translates directly into an immediate gut-wrenching rush, unmatched by any other production street machine". To anyone who ever felt it, that V65 rush boils down to one word. Unforgettable

I have to stick up for my 83 V65 in the stable :)

Yes it looks like the one pictured I would like to keep in my stable I already have a 83 vr and the wife has a82 glowing I traded my body skills for ( made a hatch on a side car so his wife could get in easier). I add a set off wheels so she could ride like a Voyager kit

So you have a 81 Venturer. Nice bike. Worth fixing up. Hands down better bike than the Venture. Wish Yamaha would of moved this forward instead of the V 4. My 78 and 79 XS's were well worth owning.

I think you have a keeper. You need to check out the XS11.com site. Several of us here are also members there. There is a lot of info on their site. I am working on a 1980 XS special now.

Was stored in a garage on a trailer for last ten years drove it on trailer to move. Never took it off after moved , seems like he really cared for it when he had it not all tore up even has radio bezel for fairing .

I have a 79 XS11, original owner, sort of. Dad bought it new in Owosso, Mi in March of 79, I was blessed to receive the bike in 85, he lost interest in riding. So, I have had mine ever since! I would recommend you join the XS11.com site, a ton of knowledge and a very good group of folks, a lot like this site!

Notice I said "several" V65s. Wasn't driver error at all. Mine wasn't completely stock, but it just had a 4 into 1 header & rejetted carbs. NEVER got beat.

Back in the day you made a touring bike, my 78 was a Pacifico fairing, detachable hard bags (can't remember the mfg) and in pic two the 79 at the back was Pacifico fairing and Vetter hard mount bags.

 

Really great bikes.

Definitely XS11.com. I have an 80 XS Eleven Special with 25,000 original miles. Runs good but needs cleaning and polishing. At best it would be a $2200.00 bike.

I'm thinking they are Krauser bags. Look at the rear end of the bags and the raised wide rib on the side. Just my guess.

 

That sounds familiar, or maybe wixom ... it was a long time ago! Update. Just confirmed, Krauser's they were. Good call.

I had 2 XS 1100's an 81 and an 80 the 79 had bigger jets in the carbs and was faster but I also bought a 1985 V65 Sabre out of the crate and the XS's were no match for it but I did take the XS cross country to Sturgis and it ran great.

I had a 1980 xs11 and it was a little top heavy I kinda mis those days of piecing a bike together. Found most of my stuff at local bike shops that did repairs on crashed bikes. Pacifico fairing off a yamaha, bates bags and side rails off a Suzuki, vetter trunk off of a Goldwing and I had to modify all of them to fit. put a cup holder and onehander cb, and a am/fm cassette player on it had to make the inserts and chrome rails for the trunk cause Vetter and Honda thought they were made of gold. I used chrome cabinet handles and made the side rail inserts. Found a king/queen seat off a Kawasaki and made it fit the XS 11 insert gave 5 bucks for the seat at a swap-meet. Man that's when bike's were fun to make them your own. Did not have allot of disposable cash so had to really give thought and make the most out of what I had. Before dealers figured there was gold in used parts. Trunk was 10 bucks, fairing 40 bucks, and bags with rails 30 bucks.

2 part epoxy and Sanded them all down and a little primer and paint and she was like new. Boy you all brought back great memories. I put allot of miles on that bike and more then 1 trip to Sturgis S.D. and Ruidoso N.M. Great bike and good memories.
