XV1100SE Posted May 12, 2014 #1 Posted May 12, 2014 Found out today that the right side (fork) lower wind deflector bracket broke on my '09 and took the entire assembly with it. Does anyone have a "spare" right side assembly? I've seen brackets on Diamond R and deflector panels on eBay but it doesn't include the chrome piece that goes on the front. If someone here makes the bracket and stainless deflectors I'd go that way if I can't find a full right side assembly. Since my bike is an '09, the Yamaha warranty goes another year (original owner bought it in May 2010) but I doubt Yamaha will cover it under warranty.

cecdoo Posted May 12, 2014 #3 Posted May 12, 2014 If you are persistant I bet they cover it. It should not have broken off if there are no visible signs you hit anything. When my lower left cowl cracked the dealer said they would not cover it, I asked them to show me any other signs of crash damage, they couldnt and they ended up replacing it under warranty. Good luck, Craig
XV1100SE Posted May 12, 2014 Author #4 Posted May 12, 2014 I intend to call them tomorrow for sure. I took both brackets off (can put them back on if they want to see them on the bike - my dealer "knows" me so shouldn't be an issue) and can take the broken one in to show them. From reading, it does seem like it is a common issue. Going stainless would be the long term solution.
Carbon_One Posted May 12, 2014 #5 Posted May 12, 2014 I may have a set of brackets but won't be able to verify till next week as I'm in Tennessee now. Larry
V7Goose Posted May 12, 2014 #6 Posted May 12, 2014 Yes, it is covered under the warranty. If you do some research on old threads you will find info on why it broke and why the new one will too if it is not properly installed. Goose
ragtop69gs Posted May 12, 2014 #7 Posted May 12, 2014 The bumper on the bracket must rest against the fork tube cover or vibration WILL eventually crack the bracket.
etcswjoe Posted May 12, 2014 #9 Posted May 12, 2014 I made my own brackets out of 1/4 x 3" wide aluminum bar from the scrapyard.
XV1100SE Posted May 12, 2014 Author #10 Posted May 12, 2014 Yamaha Canada is covering it under warranty. Thanks for the responses !
BradT Posted May 13, 2014 #12 Posted May 13, 2014 On my 99 it never came with them, so I never really missed them. The 08 has them but when it gets hot out it is nicer without them. Glad you got them replaced. Brad
thecount Posted May 13, 2014 #13 Posted May 13, 2014 Yamaha Canada is covering it under warranty. Thanks for the responses ! Glad the warranty cover this. Check on the rear shock as well. Mine went right at the 5 year mark. Check for oil drops in the garage Don, cause I found mine on the driveway. S2
XV1100SE Posted May 13, 2014 Author #14 Posted May 13, 2014 Glad the warranty cover this. Check on the rear shock as well. Mine went right at the 5 year mark. Check for oil drops in the garage Don, cause I found mine on the driveway. S2 My (bike's) rear end squeeks a bit when it is cold but no drops and bottom of shock is "clean". Thanks for the suggestion though. I have another year on my warranty and before it expires I will be giving the bike a good going over to get anything needed done.
