BlueSky Posted May 9, 2014 #1 Posted May 9, 2014 I'm going to have to become a paying member now. I just bought a 1989 Venture that looks like a new bike. It has 5,914 miles on it. I'll post photos tomorrow because I just got home with it. It's maroon and black. I'm excited!

BlueSky Posted May 9, 2014 Author #10 Posted May 9, 2014 I haven't checked the tire manufacture dates yet but the guy I bought it from rode it and it runs good. He said he had owned it for 4 yrs. The front tire is a Dunlop Elite III. I haven't looked at the rear yet. The air compressor works well. The ignition switch needed a little WD40 to work smoothly. The only thing I have found that doesn't work so far is the neutral switch. The kick stand has to be up to start it and the neutral light doesn't light up. Oh, and the Venture V that is supposed to be on the front fender is in the trunk. It appears to have been glued on. Is that correct? The fender does not have any holes in it and the paint is perfect. It will be next week before I can get it registered due to the notary filling out the title incorrectly. So, I have to make a 5 hr round trip to the Raleigh area again next week to re-sign the title. I need an owners manual and a shop manual for it. I saw the Shop manual CDs or DVDs on ebay for cheap. Does anyone know if they are comprehensive?
Peder_y2k Posted May 9, 2014 #13 Posted May 9, 2014 Anyone got a proper color air scoop for this new guy? BTW, You don't need the front fender "V" cap. I took mine off thinking it is ugly. -Pete, in Tacoma WA USA
Prairiehammer Posted May 9, 2014 #14 Posted May 9, 2014 Oh, and the Venture V that is supposed to be on the front fender is in the trunk. It appears to have been glued on. Is that correct? From the factory, the 'mascot' (that's what Yamaha calls it ) on the front fender tip is attached via double-faced foam tape, such as 3M automotive trim tape. Go to your local body shop and scarf a few inches. Make sure you clean any old tape from the mascot and then clean the mascot and fender with rubbing alcohol before placing it on the fender.
Venturous Randy Posted May 9, 2014 #15 Posted May 9, 2014 I would love to have a bike like that, but I would be afraid to ride it. That one is just too nice for the age. It must have never been stored out in the weather. RandyA

Prairiehammer Posted May 10, 2014 #24 Posted May 10, 2014 And its even the bestest and fastest color! I would have agreed with you, Jeff if you had asked me last year when I had the '90, but this year, I have the '91 and IT is the fastest color, now.
shmily Posted May 10, 2014 #25 Posted May 10, 2014 Holy cow! That is one clean looking '89. Congratulations.
