ragtop69gs Posted April 29, 2014 #1 Posted April 29, 2014 I'm in the middle of replacing the Clutch slave and noticed that the shift shaft seal is leaking, I have the new seal, what is the best way to remove the old seal and get the new one seated in the bore? Sealer on the outer bore? When I put the middle gear cover back on should I use any sealer on the new factory gasket? I also have new rubber booties for the shift rod heim joints.
ACE50 Posted April 29, 2014 #2 Posted April 29, 2014 I replaced that seal on my 99. Turns out that wasn't it, it was leaking on the case split line an inch over. Had to seal up with some JB Weld. Hope that's not your problem. I just poked a hole in it and grabbed with a hook. Installed with a wood bushing I made so I could install it straight. No sealant on seal or case cover. Where did you get the rubber booties for shift rod at?
ragtop69gs Posted April 29, 2014 Author #3 Posted April 29, 2014 I'm sure it's the seal, when I move it I can see oil seep out around the shaft. I got all my parts from RONAYERS.COM good prices, quick shipping. Been using them for years.
ACE50 Posted April 29, 2014 #4 Posted April 29, 2014 If you move it around with the engine cover off, it will leak, as it isn't supported on the end as with the cover on.
