Bike is still new to me. Backfiring issue. Ais in rear want plugged but front is removed. I'd like to know where the ais dumps into exhaust.

Maybe I can find a leak there causing my backfire on deceleration

look between number 1&3 exhaust headers, there are two small inlet lines this were air is injected into the exhaust ports. same thing with front cylinders,

If you go over to your other mystery hose thread, theres a Tech Library link showing where the air enters the exhaust.

Since parts of the AIS are removed on your bike you need to make sure the plugs on your bike are even in the right spot....ie you might have a plug upstream of missing parts.

Exactly my thoughts Niel thanks. I looked at that post on the mystery hose. I couldn't find where the hydrocarbons enter the exhaust pipe.

Do you think after all that I have checked, those inlets would be a good educated guess?

Im thinking right front cyl, since that is where the problem exist. Not surging or dropping when the caps of the vacuum port is removed. I synched it, but if there is a leak of some sort, I may have synched to compensate.

Its normal for the exhaust to be rich on deceleration, so there can be unburnt hydrocarbons in it....thats why the AIS is designed to cutoff under high intake vacuum.

Are you certain the cylinder that had no change when you opened the cap is even firing?

So last night. I decided to set all pms at 2.5 in order to get to work on looking for an exhaust or vacuum leak. This morning no popping. I did get a few blubs on decel but no nasty explosion.
