1st gen throttle cable question

I'm not familiar with 1st gens at all. Was cruise control standard on the bikes or was it optional? How does the cruise servo connect to the throttle cables? Does it connect to the junction box right in front of the carbs?

I'm thinking the cruise was standard...

 

BUT the ones with cruise use a FIFTH cable into the junction box...

Two go in from the "pull-pull" from the throttle,

two to the carb bank and the fifth from the cruise vaccum diaphragm.

was an option not on all early royales I have seen a standard with electric cruise, and the ones I have worked on the servo does hook up to j-box in front of carbs and the spring and tension is a bit difficult to get set up where everthing works as iy should.

Thanks. And how would I identify a throttle cable set made for cruise control? Is it literally as simple as looking for the fifth cable in the junction box? I would like to find a set with the cruise cable.

yup thats probly the only way to tell

Go to the IPC, There are 4 cables, plus the 5th one that goes to the

Cruz unit.

A new set of 4 cables, is about $40 bucks.

You have to Remove the left side upper fairing to replace the cables.

I don't have it...or a CB on my 83 and it IS a Royale

The 84 VR I have has class and cruise... CB was a NEW option. I don't think it was even available for the 83.

 

The throttle cable junction box... located JUST inside the left fairing, against the upper frame, basically inboard from the cassette. I got my cables from Zanotti Motor, good price and excellent service. I changed just the two leading to the carb and got there without removing the large fairing. Took out the radio equipment and went in through there.
