Still NOT Comfortable...

I've tried just about everything on my 05 RSTD and i'm still not comfortable, I don't like being pushed on top of the tank, here is everything I've tried... I don't know if it is the same seat, but the RSV I sat on has a terrible seat. It looks super comfy but when I sat on it the front of the seat seemed to push the privates into my body. I sat on it for about 30 seconds to see if I could get comfortable, but for me it was not possible. I wish you the best of luck finding a solution to your seat issue.

Picked an 07 RSTD up last week. Did find the OEM seat a little uncomfortable after an hour or so but wasn't being pushed forward. Added a gel pad/ synthetic cover I had from a prior ride which seems to work well. Wondering if the "forward push" can be tied to the air suspension adjustments? Good luck in solving your problem.

I wonder if the Mustang seat is any better, I just don't want to spend that much money for a seat that might not solve the problem...

There are no risers available for the Tour DeLuxe, the only thing to change the bar positon is installing new bars, many have used Flanders bars.

Just a thought, but contact Rick and discuss your issues with the seat. He may be able to give you some advise.

 

My seat "pushed" me forward so I sent it to Rick. It will be back on Monday (28th) and I can't wait to give it a try. I have company in for the next two weeks so a long ride will be out, but after everyone is gone, look out!

If you are looking to do some serious miles per day (500+), custom is the way to go. If looking for relief on 200-400 mile days, ButtButler does a great job. Best money you can spend if you are not intending to do ultra-high mileage.

You can spend a little bit of money many times or lots of money all at once. Only one of these actions will get you a perfect seat for high mileage days.

 

http://www.day-long.com - Likely the most expensive, but absolutely the best - especially for heavier riders. I have never heard anyone disappointed with spending this extra money.

All of these are custom made to your specs (will need to send in pictures or ride to the factory for fitting). Generally, these are built on your seat pan. Therefore, do it over the winter or buy an unused seat from another member to send in.

 

Other premade seats seem to work for some, but not all.

When I bought my RSTD 6 years ago, it didn't take long to find out the stock seat sucks. After 100 miles or so my rump and tail bone were killing me. I began the same journey you're on right now. I thought about doing the Rick Butler thing, but didn't really want to go through the process of measuring my a$$, or whatever it was gonna take and then hope it all worked out. I know from reports here that Rick Butler does do a good job on seats though. I thought about the Mustang Seat option, but when I sat on it it pushed me forward in the saddle and that felt uncomfortable. So, I ran into a guy at a dealership that was riding a Valkarie, and he was ranting and raving about the seat he had on his bike. It was a very good looking seat from Ultimate Seats. I sat on it and it was awesome! I ordered the rider and passenger seats and the backrests for my bike, and I swear, of the nearly $3K of extras I have put on my bike since I bought it, the Ultimate Seats have been by far the best investment. It totally changed myself and my wives world on how long we can stay in the saddle. We have ridden from North Carolina to Utah and a lotta points in between during the past 6 years and the seat/seats have been awesome! On long rides, sometimes when I run a tank of gas out, I'll pull into the station and never get off the bike. Just sit there and fill up while my wife runs and gets us a drink or something, and head down the road. Never could've done that on the stock seat.

 

Check them out, they might be the answer you're looking for. Certainly was for us.

I too could not deal with a numb butt any longer. Lucky to find out about ultimate seats, bought it, fits perfect, looks great, an I dont have the numb butt any more.

Just got my seats back from Rick this week and had my first 4 hour ride today... Big improvement over the stock and well worth the small investment... Wife was amazed at the difference and she was ok with it before

I ride my 07 RSV with the stock pillow top seat for many hours/miles. I did 1740 miles in 35 hours last year with no issues. I wonder if I have work done to the seat if I could ride for days..............

Good luck solving your seat issue. The stock RSTD seats are not the most comfortable. Something you generally learn only after purchase. It took me a while to solve our seat issues also. Having a 30" inseam made it more difficult. If I had it to do over I would have lowered my bike first before tackling the seat issue. I tried a Mustang seat but it pushed me close to the tank and changed my stance for the worse. The butt butler modification has worked for our riding style thus far. Rick is great to work with.

I was having the same issue with my 96. I installed a set of Venture risers and an inch and a half riser extensions. Up and back was the answer! I got the risers from Pinwall and the extensions from J&P cycles.

Call, talk to him, explain what you don't like about your seat, get him your measurements like he's going to ask for...and let him make you one. He's made two sets for me (one for an '09 RSTD and yes, I still have the seats but not the bike, and the other for my RSV) and in both cases the issue of the twins getting smashed into the tank was solved. So, was the 30 minute butt syndrome. I now have in 2 1/2 years time, of which I've spent a year deployed and not riding because of surgeries, over 30,000 miles on his seats. If he's still in business, he'll make the next seat I need. I'd be very surprised if he can't make your 'nads AND your butt happy.

 

That said...I only kept the seats because the stealer wouldn't allow anything for them when I bought the RSV. If you are fairly close to my size I'll sell them at a very fair price...but, true or not, his propaganda says he forms the seat based on body size and weight. The pic does not do them justice...but they're red.

After exploring all the seat options with a limited budget, I've decided to send my seat to Rick Butler to work his magic... However, if I was going to bite the bullet and get an aftermarket seat, The Ultimate Studded Seat with Backrest looks AWESOME !!!

I found that with the stock handlebars and stock seat my butt could take somwhere between 60 - 90 minutes before my butt was numb and my back hurt. Changing to the Flanders bars that were up and back a bit fixed my back problem. I took the plunge and purchased a Russell Day Long for me and my bride / passenger. WOW! It's not cheap but when the all it "day long" they are right. I have owned motorcycles for 40 years and this is the first one that I can ride for an entire tank of gas without my back, butt, or hips screaming at me. R.

Hello All!

 

Got my seats back from Rick a week ago Monday, but have been pretty busy. I was only able to take a few short runs into town, however I could feel an immediate difference in the seat. There was no longer a bunching feeling around the tank area, and I was able to bring my feet in closer to the bike at a stop light. All good signs and I just could not wait to take a longer ride!

 

Well, the wife and I just got home from a 70 mile "test run" and all I can say is WOW!! I no longer have pressure on my tailbone. As a result, I don't feel as though I am being "pushed" forward in the seat. My wife said she no longer felt the pressure on her tailbone as well, and as a result she did not have to adjust her position every time we stopped.

 

I can't wait to get out this weekend and try to get a 200-300 mile run in! All I can say is THANK YOU Rick Butler for the work you have done!
