So I noticed a small vacuum line plugged with a screw. I thought it was the ais system.

Looking through a couple of pics I see a hose is supposed to be attached to the right rear intake vavuum port.

What does this control. What does this con nect to abd Wyatt uses the vacuum. Should I hook it back up

There are 2 hoses at intake synch ports (#2 and #3 cyls) on a stock RSV.

One goes down to the AIS air cutoff valve for the front exhaust ports,

one goes down to the AIS air cutoff valve for the rear exhaust ports.

You should trace out the AIS system....high vacuum shuts off the air induction

so if they only unplugged the vacuum hoses to try and deactivate AIS they actually keep it active at all times and that might explain your ongoing exhaust popping.

It might be something else...in any case you want to trace out the hose to where it ends. Heres an article on the AIS for you.

Neil86 is correct. I will also note that there is absolutely no point in ever plugging that vacuum line, so that suggests that whoever was dicking around with your AIS had no idea of what they were doing.

Now for my PERSONAL opinion (which you can find in much greater detail in many OLD threads) - there is ZERO value to you or your bike in disabling or removing the AIS. It cannot improve the way the bike runs or increase power or increase fuel mileage. It DOES increase pollution from unburned hydrocarbons and give you NO benefits in return. If plugging it causes popping to stop, then it simply tells you that your bike has significant problems that you chose NOT to fix (the problem is still there and will probably get worse, but you are just hiding the symptom). Sticking your head in the sand because you simply do not want to be constantly reminded that you have a problem is NOT a benefit in my book.

Bottom line is simply this - in my personal opinion, disabling the AIS on this bike is one of the least intelligent things anyone can do. If all the parts are still on your bike, I strongly advise you to fix it correctly.

So I was looking for the front AIS and it is gone. it has been removed. The rear one is still there but I plugged it since I do not have the rear one. I connected that hose but now knowing that the front is removed I wonder where that hose leads to.

My biggest issue is that the popping was not there unrtil I rode 280 miles up and down hill. It started gradually, which makes me think something came loose.

Carbs are cleaned , floats set. I started the PMS at 2.5 turns and still get a nasty pop on decel.

Very unlikely the front would be removed and not the rear- the rear is easy to get to, but the front is tucked up behind the radiator and not easily found.

There is a large hose by the oil filter with a wooden stopper on it. The 2 screws under the drivers floorboard are remove abd there is no unit there

OK.....unless you have traced the hose to ensure where it goes.....don't hook it up to the synch port.....you could be creating a vacuum leak if the other end is open...or worse its an unrelated drain or vent hose that you are now drawing vacuum on.

Ok. I think I am going to remove the AIS and plug the houses coming from the cyl. The front ais is removed abd the rear want plugged. Im . Working in the dark here so removing it abd capping it can be a start to solving my popping issue
