Zollars3265 Posted April 26, 2014 #1 Posted April 26, 2014 Ok guys, I need to know how to lift my RSV with a motorcycle jack. I know that some type of wood blocks need to go under it. Can anyone elaborate?
KeithR Posted April 26, 2014 #2 Posted April 26, 2014 Have a look at this link.....best solution I think for lifting an RSV Keith http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3729&title=carbon-one-freestanding-lift-adapter&cat=24
M61A1MECH Posted April 26, 2014 #3 Posted April 26, 2014 If you do not have or can not wait for an adapter from Carbon One, you can fashion some wood blocks, I made mine from red Oak they were 1.5 inches thick and about 2.5 or 3.0 inches square as I recall. The one for the left front needs to be notched out to fit around the kickstand and the switch, so be careful not to smash the switch. I always put a 2x6 under the kickstand to help it be a bit more level to start and it gives a bit more clearance to get the jack and the blocks under the left side. The trick is to lift it slowly the first time checking to see that you have found the balance point and the weight is squarely on the frame members, to far forward or back and the bike will not be level when you lift it. Also if you are doing something removing a wheel, strap the bike down to the lift and block under the other wheel so when the balance point changes because of the weight shift it does not have a chance to come off the lift.
billmac Posted April 26, 2014 #4 Posted April 26, 2014 Someone used hockey pucks for shims and notched one out.
bongobobny Posted April 26, 2014 #5 Posted April 26, 2014 I used to run the jack up to just touching and look where it needed a 2 x 3 placed. From what I remember I used 3 different pieces...
rickardracing Posted April 26, 2014 #6 Posted April 26, 2014 Do yourself a favor. Contact Larry "Carbonone" on this site. Spend the money on one of his stands. Do not take a change of the bike slipping off of wood blocks or hockey pucks. It just is not worth the risk.
Sylvester Posted April 26, 2014 #8 Posted April 26, 2014 Carbon One +++++. The best. I have used it for years and have had no problems, even when raising full up.
