Twenty7Delta Posted March 7, 2008 #1 Posted March 7, 2008 I am trying to mount a Yeasu FT 10sr, it's an amateur radio. It consists of a control head and a box that contains the actual radio that is separated by a cable. I can not find a good spot for the box. It is about 4 inches square and 2 deep but needs room in front for the antenna connections. The cable between the two boxes is not quite long enough to go back to the trunk if I have the control head mounted high on the handle bars. I may be able to get it into the trunk by moving the control head further down the bars but was wondering if anyone knows another spot that would accommodate the box? There doesn't appear to be any room under the seat or behind each side cover. Anywhere else where there's some space?
86er Posted March 7, 2008 #3 Posted March 7, 2008 I don't know about a 2nd gen, but on my 86 I mounted the box for my XM in the left fairing between the H2O reservoir and the cb radio. It is about the same size as your radio.
BOO Posted March 8, 2008 #4 Posted March 8, 2008 I bet you could get it in the faring. I think there would be enough room to mount it above the headlight inside the faring. What kind of antenna are you going to mount? The bike doesn't make a very good ground plane but it will work. I had an antenna mounted on the rack of the trunk a few years ago, grounded the rack to the frame so it worked pretty good. Twenty7Delta Posted March 8, 2008 Author #5 Posted March 8, 2008 thanks for all the suggestions - I had a buddy come over and we managed it! We ended up extending the factory cable with some cat 5 cable so i was able to reach the trunk - looks almost factory.
