tomfromhull Posted March 7, 2008 #1 Posted March 7, 2008 Anybody have any tips on how to get more power out of a '99 Tour Deluxe? And can a VMax engine go in these bikes? Thanks
Dano Posted March 7, 2008 #2 Posted March 7, 2008 Ah, I was gonna say sell it and buy a 1st gen, but today is "nice" day. Get ahold of Pegscraper and see if he can fit a V-boost on your bike like he did. Might help you out. Dan
pegscraper Posted March 7, 2008 #3 Posted March 7, 2008 The '96 - '01 Royal Stars do leave a little to be desired in the hp arena, don't they? A V Max engine will probably go right in, but there are easier ways. We already have 100ccs more to start with, and our blocks are heavier too. When the V Max boys want to build up a radical engine, they will start with a Venture block because the bottom end is heavier. The V Max cams and springs are a direct swap into the existing engine. I've done it. Swapping cams and springs took me a day and a half. The early Royal Stars have 28mm carbs, for which Yamaha ought to be slapped. The later 32mm carbs are a real easy swap. Here's the article I wrote about it, hosted by this very board. 32mm carb swap If you're interested, I can make the adapter plates and mill the intakes down for you. I've made a few sets for people. Once I had all the parts assembled and ready to go, this swap took only an afternoon from start to finish. Check the dyno sheet in the article. The cam and carb swap together will give you 90 rear wheel hp, about 15 hp more than the newer Ventures and RSTDs, or about a 50% increase over what you have right now, with zero drop in gas mileage doing it. That's huge, and it's definitely worth the trouble. I did also have the V boost system in my bike for a while. Actually it's back out now, and the parts would probably be for sale if someone were interested. I have my eyeballs on something else, and both won't fit at the same time. Because even the 32mm carbs are still too small for this engine's displacement. There's more potential there yet. Then after that, get the D3K ignition module and swap in the V Max rear gear ratio. They will make a good difference too. There's a set of 32mm carbs on ebay right now, and not bringing much at the moment either.
tomfromhull Posted March 8, 2008 Author #4 Posted March 8, 2008 Thanks . That helps a lot. I'll check out those carbs and will be talking with you soon.
pegscraper Posted March 8, 2008 #5 Posted March 8, 2008 Those carbs ended last night. Sorry. But there will be another set along.
tomfromhull Posted March 8, 2008 Author #6 Posted March 8, 2008 I was just on there and saw some for an '84 venture but that was it. Oh well, I'll keep looking. Thanks again
dray Posted March 8, 2008 #7 Posted March 8, 2008 Anybody have any tips on how to get more power? Thanks this should do the trick:whistling:
tomfromhull Posted March 8, 2008 Author #8 Posted March 8, 2008 Would I need to raise the fuel tank to put that on? Maybe Peg can make a bracket for it!
Dano Posted March 8, 2008 #9 Posted March 8, 2008 this should do the trick:whistling: That's what I thought Pegscraper was gonna do. Or a turbo! Dan
pegscraper Posted March 8, 2008 #10 Posted March 8, 2008 Nah. I'm more of a naturally aspirated kind of a guy. I'd like to figure out how to put this one on.
Dano Posted March 9, 2008 #11 Posted March 9, 2008 SMall block or big block? Gotta be Chevy, I wouldn't waste my time puttin' that beautifull rig on a F--d.
pegscraper Posted March 9, 2008 #12 Posted March 9, 2008 Cadillac 472/500. No such thing as a small block or big block. Just one big block.
