muaymendez1 Posted April 17, 2014 #1 Posted April 17, 2014 Do we ever grow up? Just to be clear I am guilty of this. Why do so many guys rev thier bikes at red lights, or when in a tunnel or over pass. I think I know why the latter but why at lights. Years ago when bikes were really not reliable and guys changed pipes jets and rodded it. The carbs would flood up and foul the plugs, so when sitting a light a quick flip of the throttle would clear the carb so why is it guys with very reliable bikes and fuel injection, do they still rev the bike at the light
Yammer Dan Posted April 17, 2014 #2 Posted April 17, 2014 56 Pan would flood itself and die if left at idle for more than a minute. Trying to start that beast after flooding it taught lessons never forgot!!!
MikeWa Posted April 17, 2014 #3 Posted April 17, 2014 Reving the engine at a red light can help the magnetic strip sensor under the street recognize the motorcycle. Something to do with the higher varying stator output at the r&r. So now you know why it is ok to rev. Mike

JohnT Posted April 17, 2014 #7 Posted April 17, 2014 It may just mean I really like the sound my bike makes. I just sit there with my bike sounding like a sewing machine, An 800 pound, 90 horsepower sewing machine. If you can hear it over the stereo.
midnightventure Posted April 17, 2014 #8 Posted April 17, 2014 Maybe they started on a 2 stroke and got in the habit to keep their plugs from fouling.
muaymendez1 Posted April 18, 2014 Author #9 Posted April 18, 2014 I will let you know that since this thread was started I have revved my bike 19 times
Huggy Posted April 18, 2014 #10 Posted April 18, 2014 The wife likes me to rev it just because she likes the sound! So we gotta keep the little lady happy!! VROOM, VROOM, VROOOM.
bongobobny Posted April 18, 2014 #11 Posted April 18, 2014 You've been listening to "The Leader Of The Pack" again, haven't you?!!?
Black Owl Posted April 18, 2014 #12 Posted April 18, 2014 Well, me thinks that red light rever's fall into two basic categories. There are those that need to rev (old Harley's, Triumph's, etc) to keep their bikes running. Then you have the Yammie rider's who need to rev to make sure the bike is running.
