whacky cruise control

After getting the bike to run perfect I decided to try out the cruise.

There was a gremlin who must have snuck on. Turned the switch on and 3 lights came on.

ON

SET

RES

After 3 seconds only the on was lit.

I flipped the set switch and RES light blinked. I rocked between SET/ACEL and RES/COAST

The SET light came on and I was in cruise but she was accelerating.

A little more switch play and I could set cruise but not acel when I wanted, then no set at all.

Make sure that the clutch handle switch, front and rear brake switches are not causing the cruise to cancel. They can stick or be set to come on too soon. Some folks who have installed leather streamers on the clutch and brake levers found the wind blowing on them will disengage the cruise.

Cruise will only set in 4th or 5th gear, between about 30 and 80 mph.

It is electronic so the memory of pushing and pushing was just trying to catch up to the commands you pushed.

That makes a lot of sense. I have those leather streamers and at one point I tried it in 3rd gear. Well definitely look into that

I have the leather streamers too, had the same issues with my speed control also. I can push the clutch lever forward and the speed control sets every time. Easy to deal with now that I understand what is happening.

So I was taking a look and my brake is in need of adjustment. It's got enough play that the streamers may be opening the switch.

Will readjust and see what happens.

On my way to work this morning, I noticed I could push the lever forward.

Mine does the opposite. I can set the cruise, accel, etc. But it won't cancel with the brake switch. I have to physically turn off the cruise. I'm not using it until I get "a round tuit".
