eds Posted April 14, 2014 #1 Posted April 14, 2014 The rear turn signals on my 05 RSV Hannigan Trike are very weak and intermittent. Tails lights and brake lights are strong and work well, but the turn signals are. Barely noticeable. Any ideas where to look.

bongobobny Posted April 14, 2014 #7 Posted April 14, 2014 Crazy question, but are the front ones working? Your flasher relay may be going south. There is a mod to do to the relay to make it more LED friendly. Last question, have you tried them with the engine running and the battery fully charged?
Bubber Posted April 14, 2014 #8 Posted April 14, 2014 I have found that it is always the ground. Start there first and move on to other suggestions. Good luck with your quest. Bubber
eds Posted April 14, 2014 Author #9 Posted April 14, 2014 Bongo, yes front flash, have good light, do blink fast, rear lights do blink better with Trike running than when not running. Riding yesterday my son in law , who also happens to be a State Trooper was behind us mentioned the turn signals last night when we got home.
M61A1MECH Posted April 14, 2014 #10 Posted April 14, 2014 Did they ever work properly after the conversion? Do the leds point in the correct direction? Leds are not omni-directional, they only emit light in one direction and normally on very narrow angles. If you put a typical led replace bulb that is designed to point rearward into a stock Yamaha lollipop housing where the bulbs point to the side then there is almost no light going out through the lens. I am not familiar with what you trike conversion uses for turn signals, so this may not be he case, but thought is was worth offering as a possibility. Otherwise I would also say check for a bad ground.
eds Posted April 14, 2014 Author #11 Posted April 14, 2014 When ever I checked the lights and such the bike has always been running they have always shown good flashing and brightness. I did notice immediately after conversion that the flashing seems faster.
Cougar Posted April 15, 2014 #13 Posted April 15, 2014 (edited) EDS, When was this converted ? Are you the original owner ? Hannigan uses a special type board for the rears. If a past owner changed them out to like a Custom Dynamics Board that will happen, as I did that same thing to get rear brighter. however I had to use diodes to make my blink brighter when going with a different board. going to work now, but you can call me tonight. I might have a few more Ideas for you. Jeff Edited April 15, 2014 by Cougar
bongobobny Posted April 15, 2014 #14 Posted April 15, 2014 I have noticed the same issue with mine at times. Whenever I get it inspected I have the motor running for that very reason. I am going to do the mod to the turn signal relay to correct this hopefully forever. The mod includes a low value resistor and you cut the ground strap on the relay and install the resistor between the two cut ends and tuck the resistor to the side inside the relay cover. The real reason for this mod is that I am changing to LED front lights and that mod eliminates the need for load resistors on the bulbs...
eds Posted April 15, 2014 Author #15 Posted April 15, 2014 Jeff Conversion was done July 2011, I am the original owner, am I correct in assuming the rear lights are LED? They appear to be. The conversion was done by dealer in Erie,Pa. Needless to say I am a bit mechanically challenged but with the assistance of the guys on this site I have taken on challenges I never would have attempted.
Cougar Posted April 15, 2014 #16 Posted April 15, 2014 I take it you have removed the passenger seat before correct? If so remove it once more and see if the seat rubber feet/pads under there are not rubbing on any wires on the top of the false fender This happens when your alone ? OR do you have a better half sitting on the seat? Just ruling out some stuff. I am sure now that you have the correct LEDS in the rear if your the Original owner and you had this done at the shop. Hannigan uses a board with the right stuff on it to not mess with anything else. the boards cost around $100 each. I have them installed in my old Beetles as well.
eds Posted April 15, 2014 Author #17 Posted April 15, 2014 Thanks Jeff, I will check that out, yes I have had seats off, actually with this site I upgraded clutch and have added a couple relays. Wife is almost always on back. Thanks again
