I was wondering if any of you have marked on a map of the places you have taken your bike, and if so, what type of map did you use. I was looking online for something nice, but nothing looked appropriate. I was thinking of something I could hang on a wall and mark destinations with pins. Is there perhaps an electronic version of this?

I have a GPS that keeps "tracks" of where I've been. Once a week or so I upload all the tracks to Garmin Base Camp software. I can view each track with time, date, speed, altitude, mileage. I can use the GPS data from my camera and match it with the "track" and tell you exactly where I took each picture. It's great for building a new "route" you can take the highlights from each trip and make a new one.

I have a binder full of maps,in the old days I copied sections of State maps ,marked my rides all by hand. Now I use online maps and using paint copy sections, trace my rides add notes such as hotels, resturaunts gas prices scenic stops etc, and then I attach a map quest sheet with all the mileages and routes. I am not much of a computer guru but it works for me.

Yes, believe it or not the Sierra Club has figured out a way to save Americas forests and wildlife by having trees cut down and turned into paper, printing maps of the US on that paper and sending them to me.

I have several, about two feet by three feet for your wall.

Send me your address and I'll send you a map. :confused24:

I mounted a map of the united states on my garage wall, and had a yellow marker hanging by a string along side it.

Every time I got back home for any ride, I would mark the roads I took..

Wasn't long and I had this map with a huge yellow circle around the northern Alabama/ southern Tn area..

The map ended up looking like heck every time I opened the garage door, so I took it down and threw it away..

I have a 3x5 map that I glued to a cork board. Then made a frame for it and have it hanging in my home office. Each trip I use different colored push pins and different color string to lay it out. Will post a picture in the morning.

I have been trying to remember to use my facebook to "check in" and that marks a map on your facebook "wall"

I know not everyone is into facebook but it is another good way to track.... I know I will be marking The Dalls!

I don't even know where I've rode!! I just follow the front wheel......or that blonde!!!

I am with Dan on this one and what a tangled up mess of spagetti that map inside my pea brain is!!

Never cared much for maps and I dont own a gps (always thought that meant - Go Park Somewhere and get out of the way, I am ridin)... Befitting to this subject is one of my little bikin games I have played with both my kids and with Tippy.. You pull up to a corner out in the middle of Utah or South Dakota or Arizona,, passenger flips the coin - tails left, heads right... Done it for years, seen spectacular sites and met people I would have never experienced without the "game"... Problem is,, I have no idea exactly where those sites are...

I do think what Dale brings to this thread is a marvelous idea,, big map posted with color coded lines all over it (coded to yearly travels) would be really cool.. On the other hand, I am afraid that mine would like more of an admission of insanity than a thing of beauty so its probably not for me:rotf::rotf::rotf:
