Max Posted April 10, 2014 #1 Posted April 10, 2014 Anybody here use these badboys ? Read mixed online reviews. Anyhow, picked up a 4 pack today, I figure anything worth it's weight in gold can only be good for an 87' right? Package says it's the ultimate " faster starts and quicker acceleration". Will report later this summer if any noticeable difference.
bongobobny Posted April 10, 2014 #2 Posted April 10, 2014 The big difference will be after 10000 miles they will still be good...
cecdoo Posted April 10, 2014 #3 Posted April 10, 2014 I use them and like them, dont know if they make the bike any faster, but it does start quicker, and they do last alot longer. Craig
Mike G in SC Posted April 10, 2014 #4 Posted April 10, 2014 No extra zip over conventional NGK. But, they will last 4+ times longer. So, if you don't like that 1 hour to change four plugs,,,, won't have to do it as often.
BoomerCPO Posted April 10, 2014 #5 Posted April 10, 2014 Put 55K on my 1st set of NGK Iridium's. When we pulled them to put a new set in the plugs looked just like the day they were initially installed. They don't do much for increased mpg but their performance has far exceeded my expectations for spark plugs. Boomer....who sez you won't beat these plugs when it comes to COLD weather starts either.
camos Posted April 13, 2014 #6 Posted April 13, 2014 No extra zip over conventional NGK. But, they will last 4+ times longer. So, if you don't like that 1 hour to change four plugs,,,, won't have to do it as often. As I recall it is more like an hour each. It's the stupidest setup I can think of.
camos Posted April 14, 2014 #8 Posted April 14, 2014 Oh, Camos, it's not THAT bad...Oh??? Well I think it is just stupid. If the plugs were set on an angle (as they are on my Virago) they would be no muss no fuss simple to re-n-re. Futzing around with standard sockets that won't fit and having to force it under/through the heat shield or messing with that stress inducing socket/wrench combo that comes with the tool kit. What were they thinking? ( Yamaha ) I haven't done it yet but I think I will cut off half of the OEM socket and have it welded to a 1/4 inch drive extension of the correct height.
Venturous Randy Posted April 14, 2014 #9 Posted April 14, 2014 I changed my plugs yesterday and it took me about 20 minutes. I use a plug socket for motorcycles that uses a 17mm wrench. I break them loose and after several rotations, I can use my fingers to unscrew them . I always blow out any debris and also use spark plug anti seize. I will also run the bike a minute to warm the head without getting it too hot to put my hand on the head. This helps as aluminum expands more than steel. I can not imagine it taking an hour to change a spark plug. RandyA
Yammer Dan Posted April 14, 2014 #10 Posted April 14, 2014 If its taking you that long something is wrong or you are taking too many breaks!!
muaymendez1 Posted April 14, 2014 #11 Posted April 14, 2014 If its taking you that long something is wrong or you are taking too many breaks!! The minimum is 1 beer per plug. 20 minutes is average drinking time
