ACE50 Posted April 9, 2014 #1 Posted April 9, 2014 The wet weight of a RSTD is about 830. What's the weight of a 1st gen? The only complaint I have with my RSTD is the weight. It doesn't help when I jump on my ZRX which is 300 lbs. lighter.
Prairiehammer Posted April 9, 2014 #2 Posted April 9, 2014 What's the weight of a 1st gen? If you are asking about the First Gen Venture weight, it depends on the year and model:
Kirby Posted April 9, 2014 #4 Posted April 9, 2014 2013 RSV S model is listed as 869 pounds wet weight. Does not include add on accessories.
JohnT Posted April 9, 2014 #5 Posted April 9, 2014 And, doesn't the 2nd Gen carry some weight higher up? Isn't the gas tank actually up under what is a 1st Gen "tank cover"?
ACE50 Posted April 9, 2014 Author #6 Posted April 9, 2014 Well maybe I'll find a 1st gen and rip everything off of it!.......................except the engine of course
JohnT Posted April 9, 2014 #7 Posted April 9, 2014 And, doesn't the 2nd Gen carry some weight higher up? Isn't the gas tank actually up under what is a 1st Gen "tank cover"? But then again, a 1st Gen battery would have to be on the handlebars to be any higher.
tyota9 Posted April 9, 2014 #8 Posted April 9, 2014 From what it sounds like, the second gen weighs more, but if I recall correctly, I rode my buddies first gen once and it felt a lot heavier then my second gen. Just my opinion also my second gen feels lighter than my goldwing
Kirby Posted April 9, 2014 #9 Posted April 9, 2014 Yep, 2 gen has 6 gallons up about as high as you can get it. I lowered my front end by 1 inch and it made a world of difference in the top heavy feel.
bongobobny Posted April 9, 2014 #10 Posted April 9, 2014 Awww, John T beat me to it!! 1st gen's are heavier on the bottom and 2nd gens are heavier on top...
ACE50 Posted April 9, 2014 Author #11 Posted April 9, 2014 A friend of mine took his Mk1, stripped it of all plastic, made a rat/chopper out of it. It fell over once and he said all he did was grab the handlebars and it lifted up fairly easy. Can't do that with a 2nd gen. That's why he chose that model, cause the CG is so low. He also said it was much faster without all the added weight.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted April 9, 2014 #12 Posted April 9, 2014 1st gen's are heavier on the bottom and 2nd gens are heavier on top... You're talking about motorcycles, right?
friesman Posted April 9, 2014 #13 Posted April 9, 2014 Ive ridden and owned both g1 and g2 bikes, and while the weight difference between the 2 bikes isn't really a lot, the G2 feels so much heavier than the G1 at parking lot speeds. I think its the tire size/width, the fairing is mounted on the forks not the frame, and the the fuel is carried high, that would be about double the weight of a battery. (But, I don't really notice too much difference in handling if the tank is empty or full on the G2) Brian
bongobobny Posted April 9, 2014 #14 Posted April 9, 2014 You're talking about motorcycles, right? Uhhhh, I think so...
37 bell Posted April 9, 2014 #15 Posted April 9, 2014 I weight my 2006 2nd rsv on a truck scale it was 860lb wet
JohnT Posted April 9, 2014 #16 Posted April 9, 2014 Uhhhh, I think so... Motorcycles? My mind went elsewhere,,,,
uncledj Posted April 9, 2014 #17 Posted April 9, 2014 The important question is ...What's the Horsepower to weight ratio of the first gen / second gen....
