Bert2006 Posted April 8, 2014 #2 Posted April 8, 2014 Here is an LED option http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=85189
djh3 Posted April 8, 2014 #3 Posted April 8, 2014 There is a "regular" bulb that will significantly improve your night illumination. It is a Wagner BP1210H4 [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-BP1210H4-Miniature-Lamp/dp/B000CR3UW6]Amazon.com: Wagner BP1210H4 Miniature Lamp: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41n7oGVhB7L.@@AMEPARAM@@41n7oGVhB7L[/ame]. I had one in mine until I got scared reading about the wires possibly being to small to carry that load. So I went HID. There is a "rewire" that can be done to run the Wagner bulb and I have seen a kit to to this, although rite now I dont recall where. I went with an HID kit. It is good and really bright but there are some feelings that the lens not being made for HID displace the light incorrectly and you do not get full optics from this conversion. The CREE LED headlight is new and as far as I know the other fellow that posted the link here is the first one to use one. So some kind of review from him would be your best bet.

I am using this. https://www.denniskirk.com/piaa/h4-high-performance-halogen-bulb-xtreme-white.p22387.prd/22387.sku It is however a $49 head light bulb. Vast improvement over stock bulb. Longevity is good, it is in it's second bike and is 4 or 5 yeas old.
Flyinfool Posted April 8, 2014 #5 Posted April 8, 2014 I have HID on my bike this being its 4th year. I love the light output and the power savings. My HID is 35 watts The stock halogen is 50/60 Watts. The LED H4s that I have looked at are 32/64 watts. I don't know if the HID is really "scattering" the light or not, all I know is I can see a lot farther down the road with HID than I could see with a halogen. So I am assuming the focal point must be right. I do carry the old halogen bulb on the bike so if the HID ever goes out it is just plug the old bulb back in. I would carry a spare headlight bulb regardless of what bulb technology I am using. I have had a headlight burn out at night on a very dark country road.
sandman Posted April 8, 2014 Author #6 Posted April 8, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I read berts article and waiting for his performance report. I run a 80/100 in another bike and it really draws bugs. Are projectors a improvement?
djh3 Posted April 9, 2014 #7 Posted April 9, 2014 I also carry a spare "regular" bulb with me wrapped in bubble wrap.
campfire12 Posted April 9, 2014 #8 Posted April 9, 2014 I have been looking for a new Glass lens for my bulb that would be clearer then the stock lens. Seems to be some dealers that offer diamond cut lens that might work. Any opions on these lens? Has anyone tried to change the glass lens on a first gen and how well did it work?
sandman Posted April 9, 2014 Author #9 Posted April 9, 2014 Thanks for replys. Jeff what hid are you running? And is it true you were born in march 1922? Looked it up in your profile. Happy belated brother!

Happy belated brother! I am running a 35W Bi-Xenon from HID Country. I got mine before their service went down the tubes and they closed up. It is believed that they have reopened under a different name. I had a total of 7 HIDs from them for various applications and never had a problem with any of them, but others had some problems. I am now shopping for new lights for my new truck and have not yet decided on which ones to get. I sure feel like I was hatched in 1922........ :backinmyday: :backinmyday: :backinmyday:
