Big Auggie Posted April 8, 2014 #1 Posted April 8, 2014 My 89 VR is in need of mufflers, what are my options?
Prairiehammer Posted April 8, 2014 #2 Posted April 8, 2014 If you are looking for OEM mufflers, there are always a few for sale on eBay. If you are looking for aftermarket mufflers, two manufacturers (maybe more) made mufflers for the Venture back in the day. MAC and Jardine were probably the most ubiquitous, but are not commonly found today. Again, check eBay. Here are some new MAC mufflers on eBay, right now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-VENTURE-MUFFLERS-83-84-85-86-87-88-89-90-91-92-93-/281301971173?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item417ee770e5&vxp=mtr And another set here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAC-Yamaha-Venture-Royal-Turn-Down-Slip-On-Mufflers-Chrome-Exhaust-004-4315-/291034447720?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AVenture+Royale&hash=item43c3013f68&vxp=mtr And here is a used set of OEM from a 1993 for just $25, 'Buy it Now'. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-Yamaha-XVZ1300-XVZ-1300-Venture-Chrome-Exhaust-Mufflers-/400570338743?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d43da4db7&vxp=mtr
Rosie1965 Posted April 9, 2014 #3 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Don't forget the Harley Road King pipes. Very affordable($25-$40) and not too difficult to fit on Venture. That's what I have and really enjoy the sound. Had Macs before, although they sound good they were too loud for me on a 300-500 mile day. Here's a nice pair, don't know how far from you. http://rmn.craigslist.org/mpo/4412645839.html Edited April 9, 2014 by Rosie1965 added link

skydoc_17 Posted April 11, 2014 #5 Posted April 11, 2014 Hey Auggie, Be careful if you decide to go with the MAC's or the Jardine pipes. The length of the exhaust tube was shorter on the 1983 to 1985 bikes as opposed to the 1986 to 1993 bikes. The listing on Ebay is a bit misleading. ONE set of pipes WILL NOT fit both the MKI and MKII VR's. Just an FYI. Earl

Earl I can not speak about the MAC as I have never had them, but on MAC's Catalog, MAC Performance says that their muffler is made to fit 1983-1993 Ventures. http://www.shop.macperformance.com/media/MotorCycleCatalog.pdf I do have a set of Jardines on my '83. I got those Jardines from a friend who had them mounted on his 1987 Venture. Unbolted them from his '87 and bolted them onto my '83. No problem.
Rosie1965 Posted April 11, 2014 #7 Posted April 11, 2014 Is the center stand still useable when u installed the Road King pipes? Yes the center stand is still usable. You will have to make a transition pipe on each side. Here is a side pic of mine with the RK's. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Wisconsin%20trip%20June%202nd%202012/wisc5.jpg
Bob Myers Posted October 19, 2014 #8 Posted October 19, 2014 Can you accurately describe or post pictures of the transition pipe you refer to?
videoarizona Posted October 19, 2014 #9 Posted October 19, 2014 Please...more info. I'm looking for new pipes as well. Mine are old and not looking so hot.
Ben Rollins Posted October 20, 2014 #10 Posted October 20, 2014 Yes please more info, I am looking to have work done this winter on brakes and pipes that I can pay someone close I have in mind doing it all.
