Round Black ones work Great!!!:whistling:

I couldn't resist... There are so many. I'm on E 3s now but Kendras are a up and coming tire. Cheap and do great. I still got one on something. If you mount the rear yourself it a 6 ply!!! Just a little stiff ain't it Frogman?? Avons are good. You kinda just have to pick one.

thats kinda like asking what oil to use. Every body has an opinion and most of the time for their personal reasons. I was told not to go with Dunlop E3's but did anyways because they were to had for a real good deal so I did. They feel really good. The tires I had before were Shinko tourmasters. Great tire if you like sticky tires. Things would hold on to ice I would bet. Stuck to the road like glue but so soft I only got 6000 mile from the rear and 10000 from the front. Still for the price I didn't complain. Kinda why I said that was a subjsective question with many many m,any answers and all have their valid points...........good luck I think I will stay with the E 3' s as I already have passed the 6000 mile range with these and they still look relatively new.

I run the Kend Kruz and have been very happy with them. I selected them for two reasons:

1) They're inexpensive.

2) Their rear for the Venture has a higher load index than Yamaha calls for, and higher than you can get otherwise without going to a premium tire (Metzeler, Avon etc.). Since I overload the motorcycle that was important to me.

Get a dart board. Put all of the tire names on the dart board. Aim a dart at the board. Close eyes and throw dart. Buy whatever brand the dart lands on!

My personal choice is Dunlop E-3...

Just Picked up a set of Dunlop EIII's from Zedno's in Kitchener last month and installed them on my 89. Rode the bike on Sat. and so far I like them. They cost me $350.00 for the pair.

If you have your flux capacitor charged, you can go back and get a lifetime supply of elite 2's. Best tires I've ever had!

Dunlop e 3 rear

Avon on the front

As venturous said, best handling combination that I have ever had

:thumbsup2:

Yep same here since they cancelled Dunlop 491 RWL

I used Metzler ME 880 front and rear on my 86..... I loved them. Great handling and real good in wet. I did a lot of 2 up and year round riding. Sold the bike 3 years after install with them still on and in good shape.

Everyone will have their favorites, I have Avons on my 02 and I can say I am not as happy with them as with the Metzlers.

I noticed that some of the brands have "reinforced" tires. These appear to have a higher load rating. Has anyone used one and is it worth the extra dollars?
If you ride a Venture it is a heavy touring bike so yes you need stronger tires unless you don't mind changing tires every few thousand miles. The term "penny wise, dollar foolish" comes to mind...

You should have said something earlier,, I had a set of used ones you could have had for cheap! :whistling:

That figures CARL!!!!!! I have a set of Kendas on my XJ. For me it all comes down to best handling and mileage vs cost.

And thanks for ALL the suggestions!!! Now I'll have to weigh the advantage vs mileage on the tires suggested.

Kenda Kruz.

Work great last long time. not near as expensive as Metz or Avons. (both are great tires though) and will handle higher loads.

I had to get mine pro mounted however. The tire sidewall is STIFF.

So what kinda miles you talking about on these tires, i run avon on front that gets right around 30 thou and run 491 on back they get right around 20 thou. Yoop

:)I`ve been running Avon Venoms for 5 years seem to get good wear out of them--18.000 miles on front,10,000 to 12,000 on rear, but I guess it depends on how you ride, always had great handling.

Ride Safe.

Thanks Kev for the info

When I had my 83 Beast I could not get 491 due to the E3 replacing them.

This was back around 2006 so it's been a while

i used to run dunlop elite II they rode nice but wore really fast and couldn't take the weight of the bike, trailer, and 2 up long hauls and had one come apart after 5-6k km. now i ride with Michelin commander II's and they are a much heavier build than the dunlops, seem more of a sport bike tire and handle nice.
