Watch out for potholes!!!

I travel quite a bit to auto auctions for my employer to buy used cars. On my way back form Milwaukee today I was thinking how great it will be when the weather warms and I can ride to an auction or two. That got me to thinking about the condition of some patches of road here in Wisconsin and other states I sometimes travel through.

 

There are long stretches of interstate where the pavement is degenerating into long deep trenches on each side of the road and down the middle between lanes. Some of these trenches and potholes are 8 inches deep. That would be a disaster on a motorcycle. I know that these will be patched eventually, but will take a while to do it. These trenches will drastically reduce our ability to manuever and change lanes.

 

PLEASE be careful during our early spring rides and watchout for bad sections of road. We sure don't want see anymore "rider down" posts.

Good advice Orrin,

The other big problem (especially in Ontario) is the sand and spring dirt/gravel that accumulates - especially on curves.

Great advice Orrin. We don't have the problem of potholes here in the South as much as we do sand and gravel on the roads. With all the construction going on here on the coast the roads are really messed up. Interstates aren't too bad but you really have to be careful coming up behind semis, especially the big dirt/gravel haulers. Seems no one down here pays any attention to the law and covers their load, so lots of windshield get broken. Even state and county dump truck equipped with those rollup tarps, don't use them. Wish I was a cop for just a week. I don't think they would have enough ticket books for me.

I HATE pot holes on the super-slab. Not only do they wake me up and knock the cruise control off, they might even damage the bike! So all you members out there who have some in your state, get out and get 'em fixed before I come by, OK?

awesome advise. i'm a new rider relatively speaking. but i bet it don't hurt to send a reminder out to everyone. each winter season puts a lot of moisture down in the cracks of the road, freezing, expanding, then melting. It takes a toll on the roads.
