Do you need to remove the carbs to replace the rear valve cover gasket?

Is it possible to replace the rear valve cover gasket without removing the carbs?

Yes it is. Difficult, but it can be done. Just did it this past winter when I did my valves.

I replaced mine a few years ago. It can be done. They are kind of H shaped, I used a little black rtv on the tabs to help hold them in place. Just take your time it can be done. Mine don't leak any more. Was worth the battle of swapping them out.

I know someone who claims to have done valve lash on a 2nd gen without pulling the carbs. That tells me you should be able to replace the gasket with the carbs in place.

Can anyone help: I have a slight antifreeze leak come from behind me cylinder covers (the ones that can be unbolted and diamond cut). i thought i read A LONG time ago about a fix for that. Does anyone know?

There are a lot of threads here about that issue. Very simple fix. Here is one thread that will get you started.

They are cheap and easy to replace but a fix that has been used by many here is to glue a dime on the inside of the fins so that they put more pressure on the existing plugs.

Order a set of replacement plugs for the next time you change plugs. Cheap and easy.
