bongobobny Posted March 31, 2014 #26 Posted March 31, 2014 I'm thinking that's how I got mine unjammed...
Keysyrider Posted April 1, 2014 Author #27 Posted April 1, 2014 I wonder if putting the bike in gear and turning the crankshaft backwards a bit may dislodge the jam. I have the wheel and the final drive off. Is there a place where I can get at the engine to rotate it backwards a bit?
Flyinfool Posted April 1, 2014 #28 Posted April 1, 2014 There is a round cover on the left side held on with 2 screws. Take that off and the end of the crankshaft is rite there. The cover has O-rings so no gaskets required.

If the Yamaha Shop Manual were a bit more clear then one would know what was hidden up there. Without taking it completely apart, it looks like it is a spline coupling on a universal type of joint that accepts the spline on the end of the drive shaft. I can see why it takes a bit of patience and time to slide the shaft home into its proper placement. After inpecting it looks like the seal on the shaft is fine also. Tonight it goes back together--but I missed two lovely days of riding. Thanks for the help everyone.
Flyinfool Posted April 1, 2014 #30 Posted April 1, 2014 At least it was not a real hard fix. Glad you got it. Now get out and
