Freebird Posted March 5, 2008 #1 Posted March 5, 2008 I don't know how often I'll be able to check in today. We got slammed with an ice storm and it took my internet out. I have a wireless service at home and apparently the transmitter on top of the tower somewhere is encased in ice and has my service shut down. They couldn't tell me how long. They can't get up the towner to clear the ice. So...I'm sitting in the car now in town where I could get a WIFI signal to check my messages. I'll check in when I can but if you have a problem, please understand that I may not reply as quick as I usually do. My mother in law's funeral is tomorrow so I'll be pretty much tied up tomorrow also. Step father's funeral was yesterday in Texas. I didn't make it but my brother has reported that all went as well as can be expected. Thanks to all of you for the condolences.

Guest tx2sturgis Posted March 5, 2008 #5 Posted March 5, 2008 Man, that guy's DEDICATED...the whole town is covered with ice, accidents everywhere, no electrical power, smashed cars all over the place...cell phones dead, and internet is down...so what does Don do? Well, he gets in that cold car with his laptop, scrapes the glass, starts that cold motor, slips and slides all over the roads, avoiding all the icy road hazards, till his little 'wifi' light comes on near some isolated oasis of internet connectivity, he parks, and shivering madly, tries to log on and respond to the needs of the members....all while suffering thru a family crises...good on ya dude! Sorry to hear about your families losses... Take care...and thanks.

Freebird Posted March 5, 2008 Author #9 Posted March 5, 2008 I'm back in town again. I did find out today that DSL is now available to my house and it is ordered. It will take about 4 or 5 days before the equipment arrives though. I will install it and try it for a while. I'll keep both services until I see if the DSL is reliable. My service is still down. They said it's just a matter of how fast the ice melts.
Squidley Posted March 5, 2008 #10 Posted March 5, 2008 Let us know what you need bro and we'll make it happen....you and Eileen are in our thoughts.

Mariner Fan Posted March 6, 2008 #15 Posted March 6, 2008 Don, I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Hope all is well with your family. We got the same ice storm as you. Perhaps it wasn't as severe because we didn't loose power. The lights were flickering like crazy but somehow they stayed on.
wolfman1 Posted March 6, 2008 #16 Posted March 6, 2008 What a sad time for you guys. Our hearts and thoughts are with you. As for weather, we hear we may get 12 inches of snow this week-end and of course, in our latitude, the accompanying freezin g rain and ice beforehand. (groan)... Steve
DragonRider Posted March 6, 2008 #17 Posted March 6, 2008 Don, sorry to hear about your losses, havent been on the computer much lately, Charlene and I will keep your family in our prayers........... Freebird Posted March 7, 2008 Author #18 Posted March 7, 2008 The funeral was yesterday and went just fine. We kept it very small, family only and everybody ended up back at our house when it was over. I think it was a day that would have pleased her. Internet is back up for now. We are supposed to get about 12" of snow starting later this afternoon. Unless it's ice again, hopefully my service will stay on. Ordered the Verizon DSL but the self-install kit will not be here until Monday.
Dano Posted March 7, 2008 #19 Posted March 7, 2008 DOn, if it's like Indy, they'll predict alot, then get nothing. I feel sorry for Cincinnati and those down there, they're getting 10+ inches right now. Good luck and prayers to you all. Dan
Freebird Posted March 7, 2008 Author #20 Posted March 7, 2008 Unfortunately it's not like Indy. It hasn't stopped snowing here all day. Light but steady. Probably about 6-8 inches already and no sign of stopping.
Dano Posted March 8, 2008 #21 Posted March 8, 2008 Dang, I need some of that so I can plow to get more parts for the bike! These guys keep coming up with more stuff I should do while I got her torn down! Dan
MikeM8560 Posted March 8, 2008 #22 Posted March 8, 2008 They said it's just a matter of how fast the ice melts. You would think they would have heated antenas up there kinda like heated mirrors on your car. My condolences on your family.
