Droneh8tr Posted March 25, 2014 #1 Posted March 25, 2014 1983 Venture The PO did some creative wiring on this bike. The radio and CB aren't working and I've stopped counting the number of splices in the Radio and CB wiring.. So, can someone tell me where to get a wiring schematic? I can't seem to find one that I can actually read. The fuses check out OK. I would like to clean up the mess hes made by tracing all the wires and removing things that don't belong. Also, I found a plug near the headlight with wires coming from the radio area, the schematic says it suppose to be a "Control Unit". Any idea what this is and am I suppose to have one?
Flyinfool Posted March 25, 2014 #2 Posted March 25, 2014 Thanks to Dingy we have - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42358
Droneh8tr Posted March 25, 2014 Author #3 Posted March 25, 2014 Thanks FLYINFOOL, but I'm not seeing any schematics that include the CB wiring, or any explanation to what a "Control Unit Switch" is. This CUS is always close to the radio wiring. Ive traced my wires and I don't seem to have one. What is it and do I have to have one.
bongobobny Posted March 25, 2014 #4 Posted March 25, 2014 Yes, your control switch has your Push To Talk or PTT switch on it. All it does is supply ground to the yellow wire for transmit or TX...
Flyinfool Posted March 25, 2014 #5 Posted March 25, 2014 I do not have a "Royal" so I do not have any of the radio, CB, etc. sorry I cant help with your question.
Prairiehammer Posted March 25, 2014 #6 Posted March 25, 2014 Since the 1983 Venture Royale did not come from the factory with a CB, the CB unit you have on your bike is added. It may be a factory CB from a later model Venture or it may be an aftermarket CB. Either way, it was not "plug and play", thus the cobbled wiring you are finding. Perhaps you could post a pic of the CB so we may identify it? As to the "Control Unit Switch", I haven't a clue. I can not find anything labeled as such on my wiring schematic.
bongobobny Posted March 25, 2014 #7 Posted March 25, 2014 OK now to enlighten you! The MK1';s didn't come with a CB except as a dealer installed option, and there was basically 2 different models. Both of the 2 different models had two separate boxes, one box mounted on the right dash and was just a display and switches. The actual CB was a separate box connected to the controller box and hidden inside the fairing. What most of us do is buy a CB from a MK2 along with the dash pieces and the MK2 CLASS controller. For wiring info use the MK2 wiring schematic... http://www.venturerider.org/wiring/86-89%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Simplified%20Circuit%20Diagram%20Rev%20D.pdf
bongobobny Posted March 25, 2014 #8 Posted March 25, 2014 Heh! Kevin and I were typing at the same time with basically the same info!
bongobobny Posted March 25, 2014 #9 Posted March 25, 2014 Kevin, I think he means the PTT/Chanel tune switches...
Droneh8tr Posted March 25, 2014 Author #10 Posted March 25, 2014 AAAHHH HAA.. Thats why the wiring harness didn't look stock.. It was wrapped in orange tape.. You guys were funny, it was like deuling answers.. OK then, I'll use a wiring diaghram from a MKII.. I'm willing to bet that will solve my problem.. The PO hacked this CB in with ridiculious wiring techniques.. Its literally a rats nest of wire.. Many thanks everyone..
