Black wing Posted March 25, 2014 #1 Posted March 25, 2014 so ive been checking out some new tech lately and have stumbled onto these helmets with built in HUD, its very neat and a way to have a sat nav on the bike. its just entering into beta testing now though a few of you tech savy guys might also be interested in trying to get into the beta pot http://www.skullyhelmets.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7AYfq9uIY8&noredirect=1
djh3 Posted March 25, 2014 #2 Posted March 25, 2014 sometimes I have a hard enough time seeing where I'm going much less that maybe blocking my vision. Kind of a neat idea though.
miner999r Posted March 25, 2014 #4 Posted March 25, 2014 Had a HUD in a car once. Loved it. I considered it a safety device - your eyes were on the road and you got all the vitals without looking down.
Bert2006 Posted March 25, 2014 #5 Posted March 25, 2014 Like the concept. I ride with a full face but rarely have the visor down, so would not work for me.

saddlebum Posted March 25, 2014 #7 Posted March 25, 2014 Seems like a bit of a distraction to me. Something I prefer not to have.
beltfed50 Posted March 25, 2014 #8 Posted March 25, 2014 HUD technologies have been used in fighter aircraft for quite some time now, and have proven to be useful and effective, not a distraction or else they would have disappeared already, instead of being added to heavies. However, I too don't use the shield very much when riding with full face helmet.
Black wing Posted March 26, 2014 Author #9 Posted March 26, 2014 From what I can tell is its a lcd screen only an inch or so wide at the bottom of the helmet itself and not part of the visor. Bluetooth connected to your smart phone and the helmet itself is wireless as well. Asuming rechargable batteries internal. And it thw voice prompts work properly I can see it being way better than a gps as you wont have to be looking at your handlebars anymore

Since my GPS has bluetooth and an sd card slot, I can send/receive calls through my helmet headset and also listen to all my tunes as well as all my GPS prompts. Sure not as neat and high teck as this new technology and it isn't wireless, but it works well for me and my wife has the rear controls to turn down the volume is she wants to.
Dragonslayer Posted March 26, 2014 #11 Posted March 26, 2014 I just wonder if the HUD would be more of a distraction on the bike than a help. I remember a video from about 2 years ago that was demonstrating a HUD showing surrounding traffic hazards. (I believe made by a German company.) In the demonstration video as soon as the bike pulled out to demonstrate the helmet, he immediately got slammed by an truck traveling at high rate of speed. The HUD did not seem to help him much. just saying.....
Black wing Posted March 27, 2014 Author #12 Posted March 27, 2014 Well ya never know. Im trying my damndest to get in on the beta and try it out. I think it has the possibility to go both ways, worth a shot
