muaymendez1 Posted March 23, 2014 #1 Posted March 23, 2014 My last royal star was in my possession 4 years ago. Before that I had older goldwings , a Honda shadow 750, This royal star was the fastest meanest bike I ever owned. Since that I moved on to a 1500 Goldwing and life was going well but I always wanted to see how a sport touring bike would feel. This is when I bought the Kawasaki concours. I came to realize that I was going to lose my life or my licence. The bike just begs to go fast. Normal cruising on the highway is 110 120 sometimes. If you didn't want to sit in traffic you didn't have to . Just twist the throttle and go. So I just registered my 2nd gen yesterday and took my daughter on a 30 mile ice cream run for her birthday. Very relaxed just scooting through town. There was this one instance where my inner road warrior came out and I tried to pass someone. This bike did it , just slower than the lighter overpowered bike I had became used to. This was a little let down to my ego but as I said before trading sportiness for comfort and a smile on my baby girls face was worth it. This is a video of the Kawasaki, just messing around. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwHGyrThKkQ&list=UU39m0XNi2_r4t_T6UlUBQsA The big problem is this was a solo riding bike only. No one wanted to jump on with me after the first wheelie. Also to mention that being a big guy , This bilke was very fun for less than 100 miles after that. The excrutiating pain in my knee made the rise torture.
Bert2006 Posted March 23, 2014 #2 Posted March 23, 2014 These bike like to rev high so when I want to pass someone in a hurry i usually downshift to make sure I am in the powerband. They are definitely not road racers though.
muaymendez1 Posted March 23, 2014 Author #3 Posted March 23, 2014 Yeah I do remember these bikes have power all the way till the rev limiter. It is very touquey. Not underpowered ,just noting the differences.

cowpuc Posted March 23, 2014 #5 Posted March 23, 2014 WOW Muay,, neat video!! I have always wanted to take an R1 and tourerize the living daylights out of it,,, just because I, like you, LOVE that amazing feeling (I always said it was like having your own Cedar Point roller coaster right at your finger tips)!! Looks to me like that Connie is/was right there!! Because of my addictive personallity it would be very difficult for me to step back off it go to lesser extremes too,, BUT,, like you said,, sharing the experience with a child/wife/friend on the back is WELL WORTH having to pull the reigns in - a least a little:whistling: Thanks for the post!:cool10: Puc
MikeWa Posted March 23, 2014 #6 Posted March 23, 2014 Neat video. If you want to get a little faster response out of the 2nd gen check out the rear end swap in the tech section. In my opinion the v-max gears really light up the Venture. Mike
Marcarl Posted March 23, 2014 #7 Posted March 23, 2014 The problem with speed is that you get there too soon! Ya, that also goes for the other guy, who sees you coming and thinks he\she has lots of time yet. But it sure is fun!

Ya, that also goes for the other guy, who sees you coming and thinks he\she has lots of time yet. But it sure is fun! The whole idea is to go fast enough to get there before you leave. That way you will always be safe. Mike
muaymendez1 Posted March 23, 2014 Author #9 Posted March 23, 2014 Well as you said. You get there too quick. The reason I backed off is because a few hundred feet ahead was an intersection and I didn't need any attention. I had a sport bike itch I just needed to scratch. Glad I did but I have been fortunate to keep my licence. Onward to calming things down a bit. Im sure after a while I wont even miss the connie, It is just a big difference riding the connie last week and the venture this week.
muaymendez1 Posted March 23, 2014 Author #10 Posted March 23, 2014 Heres another. Since I had a good response on the last one. Warning The music may be annoying to some . This is my type of music Check it out. My favorite 5 mile road in NEW JERSEY. When I just have to get a few twisties, this were I go to meditate.
