Just got the following message and passing along to all members here who ride as members of the Patriot Guard.

With respect.....Boomer

Patriot Guard,

Let’s first remember our Nation’s true Heroes. Those brave men and women of our military and first responders who gave their life so that we may enjoy the freedom to express our differences.

While it is hard to find anything good to say about his views or actions, we do give our condolences to his family during what must be a painful time for them. We take no joy in the sickness and death of any man. We do not celebrate the death of Fred Phelps. Patriot Guard Riders hope that Mr. Phelps somehow found the peace that seemed to elude him in life.

It is true that the PGR grew out of a response to protests at funerals. That's a fair statement.

However, that was 2005 and the PGR quickly learned that there was something powerful in a gathering of Americans who would simply stand and hold flags and let a family know that they were not alone. That powerful thing became our mission.

We are neither a protest nor a counter protest group. We honor fallen Heroes and those who have honorably served this free America. The presence or absence of a protest does not alter that mission.

If it not for this man and his family we might not have heeded the call to regularly honor the sacrifices of our nation’s true heroes and their families. Nor would we have come to know the brother/sisterhood that has become the Patriot Guard Riders.

Respectfully,

Robbie

My perspective on Phelps and the WBC is the same now as when I joined the Patriot Guard many years ago: I think its a damn shame that it took someone like Phelps and his organization's antics to wake Americans up to the fact that all members of our Armed Forces and all First Responders are truly America's Hero's and deserve all the SUPPORT and RESPECT which we as a Nation can render unto them.

With over 400+ Guard Missions under my belt I can truly say that WE do make a difference for the families of our Hero's and no one can diminish that fact in any way.

I may be wrong, but for me, I will always remember the Twin Towers disaster on 9/11 that brought the First Responders to the forefront. I will always remember how I was treated coming back from VietNam as how our soldiers deserve so much more for following orders, and I will always do that which is within my power to forget people like Phelps, who I feel used our Lord as an excuse to do whatever it is he wanted. just my two cents. but I needed to say it.

.....edit..... please do not confuse my attitude towards Phelps, as being the same as my attitude towards the Patriot Guard... I never realized before that they shared a connection. But then again, if I did not realize it, then I suspect many others have not also.

I read an article today that say's he died from Aids, and that he will be buried in Arlington with full military honors  , it went on to say that he was a Sgt. Maj. during the Korean conflict.

Sure would like to see the Patriot Guard quietly attend his funeral.

Thousands standing quietly.

Oh, just Googled, no funeral for him. Go figure.

Well said. God does still forgive. And even though I disliked the man and what he said I'll defer to God on the judgment aspect of this mans life and actions.

Not sure where you read that. Phelps was never in the military, therefore ineligible for military honors or burial at Arlington.

That has been confirmed. Phelps will never be interred in the sacred ground of Arlington.

I for one will not mourn his death, but I will continue support for the PGR so that his kind will not soil any of our Service or First Responders passing.
